Staff Nurse

Position Summary:
Provides professional nursing care within an assigned unit according to established standards and procedures. Assists in the training (OJT) for all nurses, students, and PCA.

Duties and Responsibilities:
General

1. Responsible for carrying out high standards of nursing care and treatment of patients during the shift.
2. Receive shift report on patients' details and condition and render care appropriately.
3. Visit every patient, assess condition, and implement nursing care plan to achieve satisfactory clinical outcomes.
4. Take and document the vital signs of the patient and inform the relevant doctor of any abnormalities.
5. Responsible for collection of specimens when ordered, ensuring correct labeling.
6. Follow medical staff rounds and assist by giving relevant information regarding nursing observations made on the patients. Assist the medical staff in procedures.
7. Ensure consultants' orders are carried out before the end of each shift.
8. Administer medications to patients according to standard operating procedure.
9. Carry out dressing using strict aseptic technique as per policy and procedure.
10. Treat all patients with consideration and courtesy with respect for culture and religion.
11. Supervise the cleanliness of assigned area or ward.
12. Check DDA and controlled drugs, emergency trolley, and portable oxygen for each shift.
13. Ensure that all items used for patients, including medications and surgical supplies, are duly recorded and charged.
14. Carry out inventory on surgical items and equipment each week.
15. Maintain patient safety by taking preventive measures against accidents and incidents.
16. Responsible for reporting to Nurse Managers/Supervisors any incidents.
17. Take personal responsibility for own professional development.
18. Assist in managing the mortuary services according to hospital, regulatory, and ethical requirements.
19. Perform other related duties as assigned or directed.

Education and Requirements:
Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of experience. Preferably with a post-basic certificate. Valid annual practicing certificate. Able to communicate well in both written and spoken English language and Bahasa Malaysia.

Special Demands:
Possess a pleasant and caring personality. Possess adequate knowledge and competence in rendering nursing care and analytical skills to interpret changes in patient conditions such as medical, surgical, orthopedic, and pediatric patients. Detail-oriented.
