Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for on-time delivery per request to ensure supply continuity while maintaining inventory control at a reasonable level. The position requires monitoring and driving improvements in suppliers’ performance, maintaining efficient communication internally and externally, and strengthening AE’s business relationship with suppliers. Duties include but are not limited to obtaining favorable results, maintaining systems correctly and timely, and completing tasks within the required time period. The role provides assistance in various purchasing assignments and the planning of lower to medium value production materials under limited supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Review Business Requirements Planning (BRP) Report and analyze suggested orders and/or alterations.
  2. Educate suppliers on performance measurements and continuous improvements.
  3. Evaluate and monitor supplier quality and delivery performance against corporate zero defects and on-time delivery objectives, collaborating with related teams to enhance performance.
  4. Develop a good working knowledge of materials and sources of supply to make purchases at prices consistent with quantity and quality requirements and within established standard costs.
  5. Acquire in-depth knowledge of assigned commodities/suppliers, technologies, manufacturing processes, and related industries to effectively expedite results.
  6. Purchase parts/materials using Requests for Quotes (RFQ) and Request for Information (RFI), including negotiation, contracts, cost analysis, and internal/external technical expertise.
  7. Establish and strengthen good business relationships with suppliers and internal customers; work closely with planning and demand teams to understand real demand fluctuations and proactively address changes.
  8. Maintain good communication with suppliers via daily emails, phone calls, or conference calls regarding delivery issues, DMR issues, GR issues, quality issues, payment issues, or others until resolved.
  9. Ensure system maintenance is timely and accurate; complete purchasing assignments within the designated time frame at a high level.
  10. Keep inventory at a reasonable level as required through negotiation with suppliers by pushing out, rescheduling, or canceling open orders.
  11. Adhere to organizational requirements on quality management, health and safety, code of conduct, legal stipulations, environmental policies, and general duty of care.
  12. Work and coordinate on NPI activities with the NPI project team.
  13. Engage in NPI parts execution and include all RMA/DMR to suppliers.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Location: Penang Science Park, Simpang Ampat Penang.
  • Works in a standard office environment and uses general office equipment (telephone, PC, copier, fax machine, etc.).
  • Travel may be required infrequently.
  • Fast-paced and pressurized environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent organizational and negotiation skills.
  • Flexibility to handle changing conditions.
  • Strong self-motivation skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum six (6) to eight (8) years of working experience in a manufacturing or new product introduction environment.
  • Good knowledge of SAP.
  • Experience managing/supporting projects as a coordinator or leader of a commodity group.
  • Preferably several years of experience in handling PCBA purchases or Higher Level Assembly (HLA) purchases.
  • Familiarity with procurement systems and procedures, capable of making reasonable recommendations for improvements to enhance communication and business dealings.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and supervisory capabilities; demonstrate leadership abilities.
  • Support the purchasing manager in driving team results.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Purchasing/Logistics/Material Management, or equivalent education and/or experience.
