Senior Technical Safety Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood is recruiting a Senior Technical Safety / Process Safety Engineer to join our Kuala Lumpur Office team to support the Operations APAC (West) engineering activities.

Wood's Operations business delivers brownfields engineering, procurement, construction, optimisation and technical services to the energy (oil and gas) & materials sectors within the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. The APAC Region enjoys long-term partnerships with some of the region's most prominent energy producers, actively supporting operations in Western Australia, the Northern Territory, and South East Asia. RESPONSIBILITIES

In this role, you will be reporting directly to the Lead Technical Safety Engineer in the KL Office and will be closely collaborating with our Perth, Western Australia Office and be working across FEED / Execution. Your focus will be on:

1. performing formal safety assessment (FSA) studies
2. providing support for risk-based decision-making
3. applying knowledge of safety in design principles to the design/modification of petroleum production/processing facilities
4. ensuring compliance with safety regulations in all aspects of process safety design

QUALIFICATIONS

Suitably qualified with a Bachelors of Engineering degree from an accredited university, ideally you will have relevant experience in safety engineering petroleum production or processing facilities and preferably on brownfields projects.

To be considered for this opportunity, you must hold valid work rights to work lawfully in this Malaysian location.

In addition, you will have:

1. 6+ years of relevant experience in the offshore / onshore Oil and Gas upstream / downstream industry
2. Registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) Professional Engineer Registration is preferred, but not mandatory
3. Experienced engineer with sound technical background and expertise
4. Competent in Technical Safety design / environmental requirements, procedures, and responsibilities
5. Knowledge of safety regulations and applicable industry codes / standards
6. Excellent report writing and oral communication skills
7. Intellectually capable, can substantiate the ability to apply theory in a practical context
8. Professional demeanor, interpersonal skills
9. Enthusiastic, conscientious, and keen to learn
10. Able to demonstrate a level of team working skills
11. Flexible with a can-do attitude
12. Experienced in quality control requirements and quality assurance for engineering work
13. Demonstrated experience in supporting and mentoring junior colleagues
14. A "solutions mindset" and able to manage varying tasks with often changing and competing priorities
