Sealed Air is seeking a result-driven, motivated, and innovative professional to lead the development of new products in the Food Packaging industry. The ideal candidate will excel at creating cutting-edge material technologies and products, with a deep understanding of packaging materials, systems, industry-standard testing methods, and customer operations.
Key responsibilities include leveraging strong analytical and problem-solving skills to develop formulations, conduct fitness-for-use testing, and present trial results. The candidate will provide expert recommendations to customers, internal teams, and key stakeholders, driving the successful implementation of solutions. Beyond product development, the role involves supporting business operations by providing training, troubleshooting, and performance insights for internal and external audiences.
Job Description
- Lead the development and commercialization of products that support new business growth opportunities.
- Manage projects effectively, utilizing appropriate technical resources, and meeting project goals and timelines.
- Prioritize and ensure the timely completion of material technology and product development projects, aligning objectives with I&D leadership.
- Identify and evaluate new material technologies, assessing their viability, potential for business growth, and resource requirements for full development and commercialization.
- Monitor and analyze competitor activities related to material technologies.
- Foster collaborative relationships with industry and academic partners to explore and develop new material and process technologies.
- Conduct rigorous testing of new material and system designs, addressing real-world challenges while aligning with critical customer needs.
- Stay informed of emerging technologies to maintain a competitive edge.
- Design and execute test plans and field trials to validate the performance and reliability of materials, equipment, and their interactions, ensuring robust solutions for customers.
- Perform root-cause analyses to deliver high-quality results, supported by thorough technical documentation for informed decision-making.
- Strengthen customer relationships by leveraging soft skills, sales expertise, and influence to foster collaboration and accelerate the adoption of Sealed Air’s solutions.
- Develop compelling value propositions and competitive analyses for new solutions, defining project scopes and driving innovation.
- Gather insights into customer needs to inspire and shape Sealed Air’s future innovations.
- Partner with teams across I&D, Engineering, Sustainability, Equipment, Marketing, and Supply Chain to develop and implement technologies at regional and global levels.
- Navigate and contribute effectively within a matrix-managed organizational structure.
Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S Polymer Science / Packaging Science / Chemical Engineering or related field and around 4-5 years of relevant plastic industry/packaging experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in extrusion, polymers, polymer chemistry, and materials science and their interactions with processes and customer use.
- Proven track record of identification and valuation of polymers and additives and translating ideas into significant commercial success.
- Knowledge of the food sciences/food production/process as it relates to packaging materials, equipment, and applications.
- Demonstrate ability to design, lead, and complete project work.
- Must be proficient in technical writing and oral communication.
- Able to work globally with appropriate sensitivities to cultures, businesses, etc.
- Able to make priority decisions and provide clear focus to work teams.
- Demonstrate ability to utilize statistics or DOE, proficient in Microsoft and Google Applications.
- Willing to travel to Kuantan (to conduct the product trials/testing at the Kuantan facility depending on the project timeline, schedule & complexity of trials etc).
