Responsibilities and Duties
Sports Event Acquisition, Distribution, and Production
- Assist the Sports Director in media rights acquisition and content synergy by communicating with federations, content agencies, and production houses. Source market information, conduct analysis, and prepare bid documents or proposals.
- Lead the sports team on sports events distribution and coordinate with ABU members and sublicensees.
- Assist ABU broadcasters in sports events production and broadcast preparation/setup, including resolving routine fixtures and technical problems.
- Guide ABU broadcasters on sublicensing agreement compliance, including marketing and promotion terms.
- Collaborate with event owners and ABU’s legal department on contract signing procedures and documentation.
- Gather post-event feedback and collect broadcast information for record and reporting purposes.
- Assist the finance team with due collection from broadcasters and partners.
- Lead the content input, maintenance, and operation of the ABU Sports & Entertainment Network (ASEN), an online sports and entertainment content exchange platform.
- Assist the Sports Director with host production assignments, including IBC operations, venue international feeds production, commentary guidance, and highlights production.
Projects Organising
- Organise workshops, webinars, and training courses (in-country, sub-regional, or regional) for union members and collect feedback.
- Lead the team to organise annual sports group conferences and associated meetings, as well as occasional forums or summits.
- Supervise department-written work, including news, articles, and content for the union’s sports website and social media platforms.
- Guide the team on co-production projects with partners and members, such as sports news reporting, documentaries, short video production, and onsite collaborations during sports games.
- Lead the release of sports-related articles or news on ABU magazines, newsletters, and websites as required.
- Design and execute ABU Sports Group promotional events.
- Assist with ABU Sports Prize entries, juries, and awarding activities.
- Perform any other reasonable duties requested by the management and members.

The ABU provides expertise to its members in the field of electronic media development, radio and television programming, co-production, acquisition of broadcast rights for sports events, inter-regional communication and cooperation, and international media dialogues, to name a few amongst its wide mandate. The ABU, at the invitation of the Government of Malaysia, has its headquarters at the Institut Penyiaran dan Pembangunan Tun Abdul Razak in Angkasapuri since 1979. The Malaysian Government through Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) is a permanent member of the ABU Administrative Council, which is the governing body of the Union.

The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) is an international professional association of broadcasting organisations with around 260 members located in 70 countries. It services these members from the ABU Secretariat, which is based in RTM’s Angkasapuri compound in Kuala Lumpur. The Secretariat employs some 40 staff led by senior experts in the technical, programming, news, sports and development projects fields.
