JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Senior political researcher advises in the fields of politics and other areas of Malaysia to officers in mission at the level of secretary and above. She/he maintains effective network with government officials, academics, parliamentarians, and mission staffs of other countries, collecting relevant information, and producing reports based on it. She/he supports staff of mission in organizing, planning, and implementing events and projects hosted or involved by the Korean Embassy, as well as supporting administrative tasks when necessary.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Advise Political officers on a broad range of policy issues, including Malaysia’s domestic politics, Korea-Malaysia relations, Malaysia international affairs, regional issues etc.
  • Arrange meetings for the officers in the mission with Malaysian contacts and attend the meeting, if needed. Prepare embassy officials' meetings and business travels with relevant reports and travel with the officials, if needed.
  • Prepare in-depth and analytical reports with regard to significant political events, foreign policy, economic issues etc. Attend conferences, speeches, seminars, events to gather information and prepare a summarized report afterwards.
  • Ability to keep up with media records of high-level government officials, important figures in academia, etc.
  • Note: this position description does not imply that these are the only duties to be performed by the incumbent. Incumbent will be required to perform other duties as assigned by the embassy.

JOB QUALIFICATION

  1. Knowledge: Detailed knowledge of Malaysia’s political, historical, military and social structure and institutions, and key political figures and political parties.
  2. Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong interpersonal skills, especially related to interacting with Malaysian government officials, media, academia.
  • Effective communication skills, and fluency both oral and written in English and Malay.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute the visits of officials, professionals, and others to Malaysia and Korea respectively.
  • Ability to prepare factual and analytical in-depth reports dealing with political issues, foreign policy, domestic political issues, Malaysia's relationship with other countries, and related subjects.
  • Ability to maintain notes and records of data and sources for referral and inclusion in analysis and reports.
  • Ability to monitor social media platforms, such as X, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc., to gather information on political and international issues.
  • Ability to effectively use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  1. Education and Work Experience Requirements: Person who meets one or more of the following requirements;
  • Doctoral Degree in a relevant field (e.g., international politics and economics, international cooperation, bilateral diplomacy, regional studies).
  • For a Master's degree, candidates MUST have more than 5 years of experience in relevant fields after obtaining the Master's degree certificate.
  • Worked as a specialist or in an equivalent position at a diplomatic mission in Malaysia or overseas for more than 5 years, with outstanding work performance.
  • Note: Previous experience with institutions or diplomatic missions in Malaysia or overseas would be an advantage.

SALARY

  • To be determined in accordance with the Embassy’s regulations, based on educational background, experience and other abilities.
