Responsibilities

  • Responsible and accountable for setting and advancing the academic strategy of the department aligning it with the overall institutional goals and Malaysian qualifications framework (MQF).
  • Develop and sustain appropriate structures for management, consultation, decision-making, and communication with academic staff and students.
  • Promote and represent the college both internally and externally.
  • Conduct regular reviews and analyses of academic programs to identify areas for improvement and ensure program relevance.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of new academic programs, adhering to all regulatory requirements set by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).
  • Operational Management:
  • Take responsibility for devolved budgets and comply with the college's financial regulations.
  • Manage staff within the academic operations department, including program managers, course coordinators, and administrative personnel.
  • Oversee curriculum development, course scheduling, and faculty workload management.
  • Work with the Registrar in monitoring classroom resources and facilities, ensuring availability and functionality for academic activities.
  • Ensure the mentor-mentee program is implemented effectively.
  • Ensure attrition is maintained below the targeted levels.
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance:
  • Implement and maintain a robust quality assurance framework for all academic programs.
  • Ensure all programs are in constant compliance with program standards, COPPA requirements, and specific requirements by professional bodies.
  • Put in place the necessary evaluation and monitoring procedures to ensure both compliance and improvement actions are taken.
  • Comply with auditing, quality assurance, and risk management procedures both internally and externally.
  • Identify and obtain external certification in teaching and learning.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:
  • Analyze data related to student performance, program effectiveness, and resource utilization.
  • Prepare reports for college management to inform decision-making on academic matters.
  • Utilize data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement in academic operations.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Work hand-in-hand with the Marketing department on marketing promotional activities for student recruitment and enhancement of the brand, and provide continuous support to the student recruitment department towards achieving a high student enrollment number.
  • Foster strong relationships with faculty members, program leaders, and administrative staff to ensure smooth collaboration regarding academic matters.
  • Effectively communicate academic policies, procedures, and updates to all stakeholders, including students, faculty, and staff.
  • Perform any other ad-hoc assignments as and when required.

Required Qualifications

  • Candidate must possess at least a master's degree with a minimum of 5 years of leadership and managerial experience in higher education.
  • Able to demonstrate familiarity with MQA, COPPA, and MyQuest requirements and specifications.
  • Fluent in both English and Bahasa Malaysia (verbal and written).
  • A great team player with a strong ability to lead a team and possess good problem-solving, management, and analytical skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in any related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a related field.
  • Experience in managing an academic team in an educational setting.
