Global Legal plays an important role in protecting the Group’s reputation by helping to future-proof the organization through robust legal risk and issue advisory. Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.

We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join this team in the role of Senior Legal Counsel, Markets and Securities Services.

Role Purpose:

The Senior Legal Counsel provides expert and professional legal advice, guidance and support to ensure that the legal and reputational risks faced by the area of coverage are identified, reported and mitigated. This role will typically report to an Associate General Counsel, Managing Associated General Counsel or Deputy General Counsel.

Principal Responsibilities:

1. The role-holder will be part of the legal team that provides legal advice and support to the Global Markets (GM) business and the Securities Services (SSv) business.
2. Provide legal support in respect of GM and SSv products and initiatives (including digital innovation, and development of digital platforms, services and products).
3. Develop and maintain legal and contractual templates.
4. Liaising with external counsel when necessary and in a cost-effective manner.
5. Provide legal support to and collaborate with other functions and teams (such as Regulatory Compliance, Risk and Global Legal Services) that support the GM business and the SSv business.
6. Participate in and provide legal support for various local and regional projects and initiatives.
7. Perform Legal function’s role as the second line of defence in the Group’s risk management framework and partnering the GM business and the SSv business in Singapore in addressing non-legal issues and risks (such as reputational risk and conduct risk).
8. Attending and presenting at various risk and fiduciary forums, steering committees, board meetings (as required).
9. Liaise on a regular basis across the relevant business areas and functions and with Legal function regionally and globally (as needed).

The GM business covers:

1. OTC derivatives transactions and other GM products and initiatives;
2. Assisting with GM documentation (such as drafting and reviewing ISDA Master Agreements, trade confirmations and product term sheets).

The SSv business covers:

1. Direct Custody and Clearing;
2. Global Custody;
3. Investor Services;
4. Real Estate Investment Trusts;
5. Trustee and Fiduciary Services;
6. Fund Services.
