Job description

The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring the organisation’s financial processes, reporting, and compliance are maintained with the highest standards. This role involves overseeing the end-to-end accounting functions, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, supervising accounting staff, and driving process improvements and system implementations.

Responsibilities:

  1. Month-End and Year-End Closing:
    • Handle monthly depreciation runs and maintain the fixed assets register.
    • Compute monthly tax provisions.
    • Prepare and review journal entries and monthly audit schedules.
    • Maintain full sets of company accounts and ensure financial statements are prepared accurately for reporting.
    • Perform month-end and year-end closings.
  2. Financial Reporting and Monitoring:
    • Draft monthly financial reports and year-end financial statements.
    • Prepare, reconcile, and monitor Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) ageing reports to ensure timely payments and collections.
    • Review clearing accounts for accuracy.
    • Prepare monthly forecasts to support financial planning.
  3. GST Filing:
    • Prepare and reconcile GST for quarterly filings, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  4. Annual Audit Coordination:
    • Liaise with external auditors to facilitate year-end audits.
    • Draft audit reports and ensure timely and accurate XBRL filing.
    • Prepare papers for Audit Committee Meetings.
    • Conduct MPA audits and submit AGTO requirements.
  5. Supervision of Daily Accounting Activities for Company’s General Ledger:
    • Oversee and review the work of accounting staff, ensuring reconciliations, accounts receivable transactions, accounts payable transactions, bank balance, debt activity, reimbursements, recording of revenue and expenses are timely, accurate and within the financial procedures.
    • Review accounting reports for approval.
    • Ensure that all banking activities and reports are carried out on schedule.
  6. Accounting System Maintenance:
    • Manage and maintain the accounting system.
    • Collaborate with IT and system vendors for troubleshooting and implementing solutions.
  7. System Implementation:
    • Lead or support the implementation of new accounting systems and tools to improve efficiency and reporting capabilities.
  8. Ad Hoc Projects:
    • Undertake ad hoc assignments and projects in other areas of the organisation as needed.
  9. Supervisory and Coaching:
    • Supervise and coach accounting staff to improve quality and ensure peak performance.
    • Provide constructive feedback and guidance for continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Degree in Accountancy or equivalent accounting certification.
  • At least 3 to 5 years of relevant working experience in a similar capacity.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of SAP is mandatory.
  • A team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and be willing to learn.
