Responsible for the safety and security of guests, employees and establishment needs
Report to Manager all hotel property deficiencies and safety or security hazards
Initiate action to improve a hazardous situation immediately
Implement procedures for security and emergency incidents
In the event of fire, be thoroughly familiar with and guided by the hotel’s emergency plan
Be familiar with location of fire alarms and firefighting equipment
Maintain the security system
Monitor staff clocking on and off duty
Plan, supervise and follow IHG standards in terms of emergency drills to ensure guest satisfaction is not being impacted
Ensures emergency procedures are practiced and enforced to provide for the security and safety of guests and associates, and that these are never compromised
Maintain a daily log of incident
Conduct regular locker checks in line with Human Resources
Check all packages and passes of employees entering and leaving the building
Carry out monthly fire inspections
Maintain a good knowledge of the liquor act and criminal code
Prevent gambling on hotel premises. Prevent Sabotage of hotel premises
Ensure all outlets, fridges, cupboards etc are fully secured when not in use or unattended
Conduct random checks of key registers in telephone room, banqueting, engineering, stewarding and housekeeping to ensure the hotel’s key control policy is adhered to and report on discrepancies
Work with HR in regards to the control of foreign works in the hotel.
Assist HR with background checks or other inquiries
Maintain a vigil on the closed circuit TV system and inform security officer on patrol duties of any unusual happenings
Maintain a 24 hour surveillance of those areas that are frequented by guests and all work areas
Manage, refine and implement departmental standards to improve guest and colleague’s safety and security
Assist guest in case of security or safety matters
Ensure no undesirables loiter in or around the hotel premises
Ensure checks are conducted on fire panel, fire hose real outlets and fire barriers and all other safety equipment and ensure that all are in good working order and report to the Safety Manager any item of equipment which is faulty
Coordinate functions with other security staff or Police and other government Securities and promote good will with them Establish good communication and good will with informal leaders and relevant members of local community and authorities
Ad-hoc duties – unexpected moments when we have to pull together to get a task done.
What we need from you
Certification in safety and training and/or licensed as a Security Officer or Law Enforcement Officer may be required. Certified CPR, First Aid instructor and training in law enforcement techniques desired.
Demonstrate ability to interact with guests, colleagues and third parties while maintain the image of hotel and brand
2 years of security and safety management experience
High School or vocational training
Working knowledge of local laws, investigation methods, OSHA requirements and fire codes and life safety codes.
Must speak local language(s)
Problem solving, motivating, organizational and training abilities are required
