Job Purpose
Sales Director is responsible for driving sales growth, developing new business opportunities, and executing strategic sales plans delivering a pipeline of profitable business in the short, medium, and long term. This role involves leading a high-performing sales team, managing key client relationships, and ensuring that regional sales efforts align with company business objectives.
Job Context
Establish an understanding of products required and optimize routes to market in Malaysia and the company region. This position requires deep industry knowledge and contacts, particularly in medium voltage products and solutions, to provide value-added support to clients and drive business growth. The Sales Director will collaborate closely with the Thailand and Dubai factories and South Asia sales teams to ensure that the company’s offerings meet the technical and commercial needs of the local customers and stakeholders.

- The role will be based in Malaysia with regular travelling around Southeast Asian and eventually other sites overseas.
Key Accountabilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy for existing and emerging/new customers and sectors in line with the Company’s Medium Term strategic plan.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities and customer requirements and drive general product developments focusing on the utility, industrial, and infrastructure sectors.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and industry developments in the medium voltage switchgear business.
- Coordinate and carry out promotional activities in the target markets to facilitate introduction of new products.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with key accounts, focus on government utility, industrial clients, and contractors involved in infrastructure projects.
- Act as the primary point of contact for major clients, ensuring their needs are met with organization solutions and services.
- Initiate demonstrations and/or trial orders with major customers to gain experience and pre-qualification.
- Provide mentorship, training, and support to ensure the team is well-versed in product solutions and industry trends.
- Monitor team performance, provide regular feedback, and ensure alignment with company objectives.
- Collaborate with global and regional marketing teams to align sales strategies with marketing initiatives, product launches, and brand positioning.
- Prepare and manage the sales budget for the Malaysian region, ensuring efficient use of resources and alignment with financial objectives.
- Track key sales metrics, profitability, and performance against targets, providing regular reports to senior management.
- Implement cost-saving measures and identify areas for improving operational efficiency.
- Coordinate with operations and finance teams to ensure smooth sales processes, from pricing and contracts to delivery and post-sales support.
- Ensure that all sales activities comply with Malaysian regulations, industry standards, and company internal policies.
- Provide regular sales performance reports, market insights, and forecasts to the global leadership team.
- Stay informed about changes in local laws, regulations, and business practices that may impact sales operations.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
- Bachelor Engineering Degree, preferably in Electrical (Power) Engineering
- Extensive commercial and sales experience within a technical environment
- Knowledge and understanding of contract law and terms and conditions.
- Ability to negotiate contracts and close orders leading to profitable business for organization.
- Detailed knowledge of both low voltage and medium voltage switchgear products and automation systems.
- Previous experience of Sales Director or Senior Sales Manager in the electrical sector.
- Excellent understanding of the key business issues in end user accounts.
- Strong understanding of costing and setting prices to return agreed GM.
- Familiarity with CRM Systems, preferably Microsoft D365 or similar.
- Fluency in Bahasa Malay & English (Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, international team environment).
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent in MS Office and computer literacy.
- Excellent reporting and presentation skills.
- 6+ Years within similar industry or role.
