Qualifications

1. Bachelor holder with (Chemistry & Science Based)
2. Diploma holder with > 3 years experience in relevant area (Chemistry & Science Based)
3. Fluent English; Mandarin skills preferred

Responsibilities

1. To formulate and develop different types of wood coatings/specialty coating with strong emphasis on the following generic types:
2. NC, AC, Pre-cat, PU, PE, Epoxy, Oil-Based, Water-Based and UV Coating
3. Formulate and develop particular types of wood coating/specialty coating
4. Provide technical expertise and guidance on the application and use of particular types of wood coatings/specialty coating.
5. Troubleshoot for particular types of wood coatings/specialty coating.
6. Assist on development or improvement of existing product range
7. Assist on troubleshooting standard product failure, fault or weakness
8. To provide technical support for wood-coating/specialty coating application to furniture, door, flooring and article manufacturers or other relevant industries using Sherwin-Williams products
9. Research and Development works
10. Formulate, develop and test products which meet customer requirements and are cost-effective
11. Independently obtain information required in developing new products or modifying existing formula
12. Test new and cheaper raw material for cost-down purpose or due to discontinuation of existing raw material
13. Test and evaluate coating system whenever requested by Sales and Technical Service Departments or directly from customer and agent
14. Keep abreast of latest coating technology and application trends in the wood coating industry
15. Maintain an awareness of competitive products and information in the market in order to establish competitive advantage
16. Complete all R&D projects, compile data, analyze test results and furnish written reports within the set time-frame
17. Supervise and monitor for 1st, 2nd and 3rd production batch of new development products
18. Familiarize with key customer’s production lines and whenever applicable, customer automated lines e.g. Automated Spray Machine, Roller Coater and Vacuum Coater Machines in order to determine suitability of Sherwin-Williams products on these machines
19. Assist Sales & Technical Service Departments on running qualification trials for new and existing customers
20. Equip sales team with updated information to deal with customers at the front-line
21. Work with customers or end-users to establish company product offerings
22. Provide training to customers and internal staff on the use and applications of Sherwin-Williams products
23. Compose, activate and revise formula in the PV System, whichever applicable
24. Update Technical Project Schedule every 2 weeks
25. Prepare interim specification for new development product
26. Draft Technical Data Sheet after at least three successful production batches
27. Update and maintain the latest TDS and CSDS in both hardcopy and softcopy forms i.e. R&D Computer, Product Catalog System and Server
28. Liaise with internal parties on queries pertaining to product coding and recoding
29. Ensure proper documentation on all R&D Formulation, reports and activities for IMS and tax deduction purposes
30. Issue New Chemical Approval form to Chemical Control Communication for every new chemical or raw material
31. Ensure R&D Laboratory is safe, clean and tidy at all times
32. Attend relevant training, seminar, conference or exhibition in order to gather more information and knowledge in the coating field as well as to know latest regulations / acts implemented in Malaysia
33. Any other responsibilities assigned by the company or manager which are related to IMS
34. Train and supervise R&D Technicians and trainees
