Description
In a gaming studio, a project manager's job is to set and adhere to goals and timelines for many projects. They oversee daily project management and are ultimately in charge of achieving the project goals. Project managers create strategies for achieving objectives and implement procedures to guarantee the expected caliber of the job.
Performance Metrics
Project Managers will be measured according to the metric below, on a six (6) score rating scale:
- Project Scheduling and Timeliness:
- Leading: Percentage of project milestones on schedule
Lagging: Client-facing bids vs actuals
- Budget Management:
- Leading: Resource consumption vs project progress
Lagging: Final budget variance (finance bids vs actuals)
- Team Productivity and Efficiency:
- Leading: Burn-down rates (sprint or bids vs actuals)
Lagging: Bids vs actuals
- Risk Management:
- Leading: Number of new identified risks that have mitigation plans in place per week out of total new risks identified
Lagging: Number of risks mitigated vs total risks identified
- Stakeholder Satisfaction:
- Leading: stakeholder satisfaction surveys
Lagging: Post-project stakeholder feedback scores
Job Skills
Project Managers will possess the following competencies:
- Communication skills: Excellent written and spoken English. Effectiveness in communicating with both internal and external stakeholders. Understanding and respecting cultural and linguistic differences when dealing with different clients and team members.
- Risk Management: Competence in identifying potential risks and collating risks from the control departments before they become issues, working with relevant members to mitigate them.
- Financial Acumen: Understanding and managing resources and budgets effectively.
- Technical Knowledge and Curiosity: Having an understanding of development, and curiosity about our business and how we make games.
- Leadership and Team Management: Ability to motivate and manage a team to achieve project goals. Includes conflict resolution, delegation, fostering a positive environment and being the proponent of Streamline’s 5 core values.
Additional Skills
Every Project Manager must also demonstrate at least two (2) additional competencies at Production-ready proficiency:
- Understanding or hands-on experience with Unreal, UEFN etc.
- Understanding or hands-on experience with Unity or other game development engines.
- Understanding or hands-on experience with software surrounding art, dev, design.
- Understanding or hands-on experience with QA and compliance processes.
- Understanding or hands-on experience with game dev languages (eg: C++, C#, Python, Verse, etc).
- Experience with at least 3 different configurations of projects (eg: art, art+dev, AR/VR/XR, porting, co-dev, full-dev, beyond games).
- Usage of AI in project management processes and data management.
- Change management - implementation of new systems and processes for Global PMO.
- Understanding of the games and game-adjacent industries (eg: industry news, financial/economy news, latest tech, etc).
- Written and/or spoken Japanese language competencies.
