Process Engineer

Astar has partnered with a well-respected company on the hunt for their next Process Engineer. This company specializes in transmission and propulsion systems for automotive OEMs and mobility providers globally.

The Process Engineer is responsible for leading, planning, organizing, controlling, and maintaining the production of continuously variable transmissions (CVT) to ensure scheduled volumes are met safely, with prescribed quality standards, minimal production costs, and optimal utilization of manpower and machine capacity. The role involves coordinating technical analyses to continuously improve productivity and efficiency in the production process.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor/master’s degree in mechanical engineering, automation, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years in a process engineering position within an assembly plant, with knowledge of quality control tools.
• Strong knowledge of IATF16949 and ISO9001 and related quality tools (APQP, PPAP, MSA, SPC, FMEA).
• Demonstrated success in driving continuous improvement initiatives using LEAN, KAIZEN, and Six Sigma methodologies to significantly enhance process efficiency, reduce operational costs, and elevate product quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Track production capacity and quality results, including efficiency and scrap rates.
• Set up planning and allocation of tasks for shifts to ensure smooth operations.
• Plan and follow up on machine conversions and improvements.
• Define actions in consultation with the Quality department in case of quality issues.
• Perform process audits to supervise operators' quality, knowledge, and operational methods.
• Organize on-the-job training sessions for operators to enhance their skills.
• Collaborate with equipment engineers to analyze and solve production problems.
• Conduct process control points with shift leaders to ensure quality standards.
• Build and maintain quality systems in accordance with IATF16949 standards.
• Purchase NPG materials within a well-defined budget while ensuring quality and efficiency.
• Responsible for the management of test bench in the production line.
• Analyze noise and bad function issues, then define actions to reduce reject rates.
• Study noise results obtained from test bench and car tests, improving testing conditions to combine the results.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Proficient understanding of the IATF16949 system and its application in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in handling internal and external nonconformities independently.
• Proficient in process control and 5S management; familiar with quality control tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot process issues.
• Excellent communication skills in English and Malay, both written and verbal.
• Leadership skills to organize quality training and meetings and motivate teams effectively.
• Proven ability to coordinate cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Experience or affinity in automotive gearbox systems or similar components.
