About the job

We’re looking for a Principal Safety Engineer to join our Kuala Lumpur team.

As a Principal Safety Engineer, you will lead transformative safety consultancy projects and risk management studies across the resources and energy sectors. Your expertise will help clients protect, extract, and create value throughout the asset lifecycle—from design to retirement—by designing and implementing robust, sustainable risk solutions.

To succeed in this role, you should be seeking to lead meaningful transformation in major hazards and risk management. If you are a design experienced engineer with hands-on technical expertise and a passion for delivering sustainable impact—we want to hear from you.

What you’ll do

The role responsibilities include:

  • Consulting Leadership: Deliver safety and operational risk consulting engagements that drive tangible business outcomes for clients.
  • Executive Collaboration: Partner with client leadership teams to identify risk scenarios, assess their impact asset performance, and link risk management processes to design solutions.
  • Risk Mitigation: Develop and implement project specific risk mitigation programs, safety frameworks, and governance structures suited to each client’s culture and operational environment.
  • Business Development: Lead proposal development, contribute to business development efforts, and support team members in securing new work.
  • Team Development: Mentor and support the regional consulting team through capability building and best practice sharing.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate effectively across all levels of client organizations, including cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.

What you’ll have

  • Industry Experience: 15+ years in safety and risk management within high-risk, heavy industries.
  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering or related field required.
  • Professional registration with a Practice Certificate desirable.
  • Fluency in English (Additional languages are a plus).
  • Technical Expertise: Proven expertise in a broad range of safety risk analysis and management techniques across engineering and operational phases of an asset lifecycle.
  • Key understanding of industry related guidance, codes and standards.
  • Process Improvement: Demonstrated ability to improve delivery governance structures, enhance delivery models, and streamline operational processes.
  • Lifecycle Experience: Experience across the asset lifecycle: concept, design, build, operations, maintenance, and decommissioning.
  • Leadership Skills: Ability to effectively lead projects, manage change, and influence stakeholders in complex, high-risk environments.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Consulting Proficiency: Proven track record of consulting leadership and client engagement.

Why you should apply

  • Leading global provider of professional project & asset services in energy, chemicals & resources.
  • We deliver the world’s most complex projects.
  • Join a high-performing team.
  • Join a fun and inclusive, global team of professionals.
  • Opportunities to progress beyond this role.
