JOB TITLE: PRINCIPAL MECHANICAL ENGINEER
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead a team of engineers and designers in carrying out detailed engineering work, assuming responsibility for conceptual and detailed design (Concept, Front End or Basic, Material, Stress Analysis, Layout Engineering, Coordination of 3D modeling) and provide necessary technical information for procurement in compliance with tender specifications/data sheets and within budgeted man-hour and project schedules.
- Assist the Head of Mechanical in the day-to-day work performance.
- Plan, coordinate and supervise major engineering work and activities of the oil and gas project.
- Identify and resolve engineering issues which are critical for project schedule and cost.
- Execution of a significant design task with minimal supervision.
- Generate detailed engineering drawing, conduct engineering analysis and recommend technical solutions.
- Check the engineering deliverables for correctness and quality, mark-up any comments or revisions on these documents and ensure that the changes are included and completed on the latest copies of all affected documents.
- Motivate project teams' personnel and encourage collaboration across the functions involved in a project to maximize productivity and morale.
- Conduct technical review of the project to ensure compliance with client's specifications, overall and detailed engineering design, associated calculations and specifications of all civil works required for the onshore and offshore oil and gas production facilities.
- Overall supervision of the engineers under him or her, the overall design work and endorsement of detailed designs related to mechanical works.
- Perform duty as Lead Engineer as and when required.
- Undertake any other duties as appropriate within their competency, as required by their supervisor from time to time.
- Integrate and/or consider Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (QHSSE) elements in all activities to ensure company’s QHSSE objectives.
- Act as the main interface in converting the project from concept to detailed engineering, working within project budget requirements. Oversee the technical evaluations and verification, act as a tie-in between the various disciplines for engineering inputs for the department. Coordinate and assign work as per equipment specifications. Work is normally reviewed by supervisor.
- Make decisions limited to the scope of project requirement specifications, consulting with supervisor on main affecting layout and equipment specifications. May make recommendations on mobilization/demobilization of personnel.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- A recognized degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field. Registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia or Institute of Engineers Malaysia or other board of professional engineers recognized by BEM or IEM or a minimum of 10 years of solid working experience in the Oil & Gas industry.
- Duties performed in an office environment. Occasionally would require traveling to sites and vendor workshops. Approximately 50% of time spent on the computer.
- Exposure to offshore engineering design consultancy.

- Working knowledge in CAESAR II, PDMS, PDS, AUTOCAD, VPRM/MM Package, TERRA MODEL software.
- In-depth knowledge of standard international specifications and codes i.e., British Standard BS, ASME, IBR, EJMA, AWWA, ANSI, API, NFPA and IS standards and codes.
- Knowledge in detailed engineering projects.
- Knowledge of quality and safety procedures.
