Job description

Epsom College in Malaysia seeks to appoint a Physical Education Teacher for August 2025.

The Physical Education & Sports department is seeking a skilled and enthusiastic PE teacher to join our dynamic and expanding team. The role will involve devising and leading PE, Games, and swimming lessons, training teams, and assisting with fixtures and large tournaments. They will also be involved in contributing to the extensive co-curricular clubs that run before and after school. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop and lead upon a sports specialism, subject to the developing requirements of the department.

Students participate in scheduled PE lessons throughout the week where they can experience new activities, learn new skills, and exercise for fitness and well-being. Beyond the school day, enrichment opportunities are extensive with both sports teams and recreational activities taking place on a weekly basis.

The PE department is led by the Director of Sports who oversees all elements of the PE and sports programme both curricular and enrichment. As a member of this department, you will join a team of seven PE staff and four sports coaches. Epsom College Malaysia seeks to employ a fully qualified and experienced Physical Education teacher to deliver a broad and varied sports curriculum across all Key Stages.

The successful teacher will be expected to deliver lessons across the school, coach teams, take fixtures locally, in Kuala Lumpur, and overseas, mentor students, and share professional practice.

Academic Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Delivery: Implement the PE curriculum across all year groups, ensuring a consistent and high-quality learning experience for students throughout the School.
  • Multi-Sport Expertise: Demonstrate exceptional proficiency and coaching talent in a diverse range of sports that include but are not limited to Basketball, Volleyball, Netball, Badminton, Hockey, Football, Cricket, Swimming, and (Touch) Rugby.
  • Teaching Excellence: Demonstrate teaching excellence by employing innovative and student-centered instructional methods, fostering a love for PE, sport, and physical activity.
  • Student Engagement: Actively engage students in sports activities, encouraging participation, decision-making, tactical awareness, skill development, and a commitment to a healthy and active lifestyle.
  • Inclusive Teaching: Foster an inclusive learning environment that accommodates students of diverse abilities.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues in the PE department and across the school, to share best practices and contribute to curriculum development.
  • Classroom management: Maintain good order and discipline amongst all pupils, in accordance with the school’s behaviour policy.
  • Assessment and Progress Tracking: Implement effective assessment strategies and utilise tracking tools to monitor and evaluate student progress in sports.
  • Co-curricular Involvement: Contribute to co-curricular sports activities, including coaching and organising teams for competitions.
  • Health and Safety: Prioritise the safety and well-being of students during PE and sports activities.
  • Continuous Professional Development: Actively engage in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities.
  • Parent Communication: Maintain effective communication with parents, providing updates on students' progress and upcoming sports events.
  • Fixtures: Participate in midweek and occasional Saturday fixtures, demonstrating a commitment to supporting and coaching students during sports competitions.
  • Flexibility: Demonstrate flexibility by providing cover for lessons within the department during planned staff absences and emergencies.
  • Sporting Residential Involvement: Attend sporting residential events, when required.
  • Professional Duties and Responsibilities: Fulfill professional duties and responsibilities as outlined by the school.
  • Meetings: Attend regular departmental meetings to contribute to curriculum planning and improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills and Abilities

  • An accredited teaching qualification
  • Evidence of either being or having the potential to be an excellent teacher
  • Native speaker level of English in all forms of communication
  • The ability to inspire and motivate children
  • An ability and willingness to make a significant contribution to the co-curricular life of the School
  • An ability to relate well to colleagues, children, and parents
  • Approachability, accessibility, and flexibility
  • A high level of organisation and communication skills
  • Sympathy with the values and needs of working in a boarding environment
  • A specialism in Basketball or Swimming
  • Experience working in a boarding school
  • Experience teaching in Pre-Prep, Prep, and Senior School settings
  • High levels of competence in a range of traditional British sports
  • Coaching and or officiating qualifications in at least one major sport
