Job description

Job Purpose

The primary responsibility of this role is to implement a comprehensive range of Industrial Relations (IR) initiatives aimed at establishing a strong IR presence, fostering a harmonious and productive work environment across UEMS and its affiliated companies.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide legal guidance and share best practices for resolving workplace disputes, acting as a mediator to promote positive employer-employee relationships.
  2. Address and resolve workplace grievances, escalating non-IR concerns to the appropriate Centers of Excellence (COEs).
  3. Investigate cases, provide recommendations, and present findings, advising the Chief People Officer (CPO), COEs, or Complainants on the next steps.
  4. Conduct Domestic Inquiries (DI), taking on roles such as Prosecutor, Investigating Officer, Minute Recorder, and managing logistical arrangements for DI, including correspondence, briefings, and meeting preparations.
  5. Prepare management papers for cases that may result in potential termination or dismissal.
  6. Draft official correspondence related to IR issues, including compliance with Labour Office, Industrial Relations Department, and Court procedures.
  7. Oversee the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) process, from initiation through to closure.
  8. Review and update IR-related policies to ensure alignment with employment laws and evolving business needs.
  9. Ensure compliance with Employment Legislation and company-wide IR initiatives, while communicating changes in labor laws, court rulings, and industry best practices across various platforms.
  10. Provide support and guidance to business partners on overall HR matters.
  11. Build strong relationships with external stakeholders such as IR consultants, Labour Office, Industrial Relations Department, networking groups, and HR associations.

Minimum Qualifications & Competencies

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Law, Business Administration, Social Science, Psychology, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Total work experience: 7 to 10 years
  • Relevant IR experience: 4 to 6 years, with at least 2 years in a managerial role
  • Experience in the full spectrum of HRM functions and HRBP roles is advantageous.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong passion for Industrial Relations.
  • In-depth knowledge of employment legislation and IR practices.
  • Proficient in investigation techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Malay.
  • Ability to present and defend ideas with clear, fact-based explanations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience in analyzing case statistics for dashboards.
