The Payroll Administrator is responsible for accurate and timely payroll data processing for multiple countries within Smith & Nephew. Key duties include data entry, system updates in Workday and local payroll systems, executing payroll interfaces, and supporting outbound vendor processes. The role requires flexibility to assist with payrolls beyond assigned countries when needed.
What will you be doing?
The Payroll Administrator is responsible for processing payroll data, including time entry, employee maintenance, tax information, and direct deposit updates. They coordinate with the HR department to ensure timely updates in Workday, audit payroll entries for accuracy, and handle employee garnishments, insurance, and taxes. Additionally, they implement and verify outbound payroll interfaces for third-party vendors.
Beyond payroll processing, the role involves participating in internal and external training to stay updated on legal changes, contributing to continuous improvement and data analytics initiatives, and handling employee inquiries through ServiceNow within established SLAs. The Payroll Administrator also collaborates on multi-functional projects related to system upgrades for Workday, local payroll, and time and attendance systems.
What will you need to be successful?
The ideal candidate should have an Associate’s Degree in Payroll or a related business field, though equivalent payroll department experience is also useful. They should have 1–2 years of regional payroll experience in a company handling 100 to 500 employees. Prior involvement in system implementations, particularly during the testing phase, and familiarity with Workday would be advantageous.
Key proficiencies include strong attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and within a small team. The candidate must maintain strict confidentiality, handle tasks with minimal direction, and perform efficiently under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
