About the role

Work Location: Tampoi, Johor Bahru
Reporting To: Category Technologist Lead
Travel: Frequent travel to Plentong, Johor Bahru

A regional subject matter expert who is giving technical advice on selection or improvement of packaging materials. The position will involve a combination of packaging technical skill/knowledge, documentation, and interaction with cross functional teams, manufacturing sites and vendors. This is a golden opportunity to gain exposure in managing a specified portfolio of packaging materials on a regional (APMEA-APAC, Middle East, Africa) level.

Key responsibilities

• Custodian of Packaging Library within category and accountable for technical aspects of packaging.
• Manage packaging lifecycle which includes code creation, extension, block approval in MDG, review related technical documents and governing processes.
• Support new packaging code set up by collecting required documentation and coordinating technical details from suppliers.
• Support the standardization of specifications, descriptions, and codes. Provide technical support for regional packaging code consolidation/category transformation and buying specifications projects.
• Manage packaging technical review exercise with new business acquisition and internal product transfer requests.
• Support the RDA function through satisfying project needs from concept through commercialization, including optimization and troubleshooting.
• Assist & consult RDA on packaging technical questions.
• Manage the technical relationship with our suppliers and assist with RDA engagement when working on maintenance & new sourcing needs.
• Coordinate supplier collaboration opportunities with procurement/RDA representatives through technical presentations, innovation etc.

Profit Improvement and Sustainability Project Management

• Coordinate, review and approve the technical aspects of Profit Improvement and Sustainability Programs relating to packaging category with Category Buyers, managing the use of opportunistic packaging purchases.
• Drive PIP and Sustainability Project Implementation from a technical perspective.
• Conduct packaging technical evaluations, coordinating and attending trial runs together with site stakeholders.

Operational Excellence

• Provide technical advice and support on quality/operational issues related to packaging if required.
• Work with supply chain to optimize usage of packaging stock and to review for substitution in situations of stock shortage.

Qualifications and skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Material Science, Chemical/Mechanical Engineering, or related science fields are preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Basic understanding of packaging knowledge and project management skills will be an added advantage.
• Ability to drive continuous improvement and change management initiatives.
