To deliver a quality patient-centered orthopaedic service with two other Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons at the Cayman Islands Hospital in Grand Cayman and provide orthopaedic support for the Faith Hospital in Cayman Brac.
The post holder is expected to liaise closely with colleagues in other clinical disciplines and refer patients to such disciplines within the government health service, or to tertiary centers, whenever this is indicated by the clinical needs of the patients. Patients are referred to the Orthopaedic service from other consultants, the Accident and Emergency Department, General Practice Clinics, and from private practitioners.
Key Responsibilities:
To provide a 24-hour orthopaedic service in conjunction with other HSA orthopaedic surgeons on a rotation basis.
To provide regular and specialist orthopaedic outpatient clinics, theatre sessions, and ward rounds on an agreed basis.
Replacement of whole joints such as knees and hips following damage due to osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.
To provide back up for the accident and emergency medical staff.
To involve colleagues in other disciplines, where this is indicated by clinical need, and work in close cooperation with them in the management of patients.
To manage patients in Critical Care Unit, in close collaboration if needed with colleagues in other disciplines.
To take part in continuing professional development for medical staff.
To provide clinics at the Faith Hospital on an agreed basis.
To be available in times of national disaster.
To participate in strategic healthcare planning for orthopedic services.
To participate in continuing nurse education and training.
Requirements:
Must have a Medical Degree and postgraduate qualifications such as MS or DipNB along with super-specialist qualifications like Fellowship in Orthopaedics, with a focus on joint replacement surgery.
A minimum of five (5) years post-specialization hospital experience in the relevant specialty.
Be eligible for specialist registration in the Cayman Islands with the C.I. Medical and Dental Council.
