OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

An occupational therapist is responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing individualized therapeutic interventions to help individuals with physical, emotional, or developmental challenges achieve their maximum potential and lead independent lives.

Responsibilities:

1. Provide evaluations and assessments as per the child's needs.
2. Design the IEP to meet the child's specific needs.
3. Conduct independent assessments and one-to-one sessions.
4. Supervise, provide guidance, and help in group therapy sessions.
5. Document daily and weekly therapy and progress reports of clients in case notes.
6. Communicate with parents and provide weekly updates, evaluations, and observations regarding the client’s progress and goals.
7. Handle the responsibilities of setting up therapeutic exercises and equipment, and preparing the child for therapy.
8. Monitor, evaluate, and modify treatment to measure progress and ensure the effectiveness of the intervention.
9. Refer clients to other in-house therapy or specialists (paediatric specialist, occupational therapy, behaviour therapy, speech therapy, academic support class) when needed.
10. Organize a home program/home activities related to the patient’s intervention.
11. Deliver training or in-service to colleagues.
12. Assist in the development of new clinical services.
13. Make suggestions regarding new equipment according to the needs of the client base.
14. Take precautions to avoid any dangerous situations and prevent injury for the young clients throughout the therapy sessions, whether on land or in the water.
