Microbiologist

Responsibilities:

1. To ensure smooth operation of microbiological lab and maintain in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice.
2. To organize and ensure that all microbiological testing of samples are performed in accordance with the established work instruction and priority.
3. To monitor, control, and approve microbiological analysis on water quality and environmental monitoring.
4. To troubleshoot and provide solutions to microbiological testing problems.
5. To prepare purchase requests for glassware, reagents, and apparatus required for microbiological testing.
6. To maintain and control inventory of microbiological laboratory glassware, reagents, spare parts, and apparatus.
7. To ensure that all testing instruments and apparatus are correctly utilized and maintained.
8. To ensure that all measurement equipment is calibrated as per schedule and maintain proper records.
9. To arrange and monitor daily duty and overtime duty for subordinates.
10. To develop and establish new test methods and ensure proper maintenance of the method development and validation document.
11. To prepare work instructions for methods of analysis and laboratory equipment and instruments operating work instructions and control the documents in accordance with the document control procedure.
12. To assist in preparing the annual budget and control purchases within the budget for the microbiological lab.
13. To prepare reports on direct costs of analysis and monthly laboratory charges for tests carried out on samples submitted by external parties.
14. To ensure that all documents in the microbiological laboratory and QC laboratory are updated and comply with ISO 17025 and other SOP requirements.
15. Any other related ad-hoc assignments as assigned by the Management.

Job Requirements:

1. Candidate must possess a minimum Degree in Microbiology, Food Technology, Biotechnology, or related fields with 2-3 years of applicable working experience.
2. Good knowledge of laboratory skills.
3. Knowledge of regulatory and quality system requirements – GMP, HACCP, and ISO Quality Management Systems and procedures will be an added advantage.
4. Good analytical and communication skills.
5. Good command of written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia.
6. Ability to work in a team environment and independently in a flexible work environment with changing priorities.
7. Knowledge of ERP is a plus.
8. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
9. Diploma/STPM holders in Science are encouraged to apply for junior positions (e.g., Quality Supervisor (Microbiology/Chemistry) or Laboratory Technician (Chemistry)).
