Wood is currently searching for a Mechanical Engineer (SES) to join our Consulting team based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Our ideal candidate will join a team of engineering specialists working within the field of engineering dynamics specifically focusing on managing vibration induced fatigue risks in Static Equipment Systems.
The Role
This is a practical consulting role combining hands-on field work and office-based analysis and reporting. In this role you will demonstrate your technical interests, particularly resolving the causes and effects of vibration in static equipment and structures in process plants, including piping and instrument tubing. Working enthusiastically, you will provide engineering solutions and services improving the integrity, reliability and performance of our client's facilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist with vibration-related field inspections/surveys and troubleshooting investigations associated with piping and tubing attached to process plant.
- A keen eye for detail and the ability to quickly interpret key client evidence.
- Prepare written reports of investigation findings and recommend methods for rectification.
- Maintain and develop new client relationships.
- Develop systems and processes for continuous improvement.
- Provide innovative engineering solutions within a customer focused and service-oriented framework.
You Will Demonstrate
- Experience with modelling based analysis techniques such as FEA.
- Familiarity with piping vibration or structural dynamics (preferred however not essential).
- Familiarity with process and piping drawings such as P&IDs and isometrics.
- Exposure to digital tools/ coding / data handling (e.g using Python, SQL, Power BI Visualisations).
- Some familiarity with relevant piping codes.
- Strong communication skills, technically curious, and able to provide a customer focused service.
- Ability to work within project budget, schedule, and resource constraints.
- Strong competency in English literacy, effective report writing skills, and computer proficient.
- Exposure to site work and flexibility to take on site travel to client locations throughout Australia when required.
- Exposure to design, inspection, or integrity/reliability management of machinery packages (e.g reciprocating and screw compressors, pumps).
Candidates must have Malaysian citizenship or hold valid working rights to be considered for this role.
Qualifications
- Engineering degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics.
- 4+ years of relevant engineering experience (Mining / Oil & Gas / Renewables).
- Minimum 2-3 years experience in using the modelling based analysis technique FEA (mandatory).
- Experience with relevant piping codes and / or piping code analysis software for fatigue analysis.
- Advanced problem solving and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) capability.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong team relationships.
- Strong competency in English literacy with demonstrated experience in effective report writing.
