The Role: Market Analyst – Energy Transition and Capital Deployment

The Team: S&P Global Commodity Insights is the leading provider of Energy Transition and Sustainability data and insight and is currently looking to recruit a market analyst focused on financial markets and the energy transition in Penang, Malaysia to support its rapidly growing and successful team, which is located across various locations in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

The Impact: The successful candidate will be keen to work as part of a global team, developing knowledge of the energy transition and clean energy technology sectors, as well as established analytical and communication skills. They will realize valuable relationships with existing and potential clients, and produce high-quality data and reports to support the critical business decisions of our customers.

What’s in it for you: The individual will be a key contributor to the global Energy Transition, Sustainability and Services team, and will support clients by providing detailed market data, research, and insight to customers ranging from global energy giants to innovative technology start-ups. They will focus on the cleantech sector, developing deep expertise on technology trends, the competitive environment, business models, policy, and supply chains; applying that knowledge to analysis and research initiatives, including updating datasets, and producing reports and presentations.

Responsibilities

  1. Collect, manage and analyze market data to track and identify trends, transactions, technology developments, stakeholders, and projects in the cleantech area.
  2. Create high-quality market reports analyzing capital deployment into the energy sector.
  3. Work with both a global team and local colleagues to coordinate viewpoints and align data and forecasts.
  4. Develop excellent relationships with companies to better understand their perspectives, views, opinions, and needs and incorporate into S&P Global's research.
  5. Support client requests by providing answers to questions about research findings.

What We’re Looking For: The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in market analysis, financial analysis, or a related research role, preferably within the energy, cleantech, or sustainability sectors. Key skills include:

  1. Knowledge of the cleantech, renewables, and battery industry.
  2. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Strong analytical skills, including a high degree of competency with Excel.
  4. Familiarity with AI tools and advanced prompt writing.

The following skills will also be valuable in this role:

  1. Ability to pick up new knowledge fast and multi-task.
  2. Ability to work in a diverse, global team.
  3. Ability to understand technical and economic concepts.
