To assist the general manager (Sustainability) in leading and managing the carbon management team in developing a programme that will reduce the Group's energy use, carbon footprint, support Business with decarbonization efforts and expertise, and implement sustainable methods of managing the portfolio of property.
Responsible for overseeing the energy and carbon performance of the organisation, developing, implementing, and monitoring renewable energy and carbon reduction strategies, policies and programmes that promote carbon management, energy efficiency and sustainable development across integrated assets, townships, industrial, commercial, and retail assets.
To provide expertise and knowledge of the science, policies, technologies, and environmental interventions associated with climate change including the international context and evidence base for carbon reduction targets. Monitor key changes in legislation and policy and identify any impacts these may have on the council's carbon reduction ambition.
Collaborate proactively and effectively across service and organizational boundaries and build a strong network of committed stakeholders to deliver the councils carbon reduction targets.
To actively seek partnerships/network for decarbonization and where possible, enhance leadership through strategic corporate communication activities.
Job Responsibilities
Responsible for developing and monitoring Net Zero carbon reduction pathways and targets and reporting on the organization’s progress towards Net Zero.
Lead on development of Group's renewable energy, energy efficiency and carbon management policy, urban biodiversity framework/policy etc.
Facilitate the implementation of energy, and carbon, strategies across all BUs.
Develop and promote evidence based technical policy, standards, and protocols, and provide specialist guidance to enable the Group to develop more sustainable use of the portfolio.
Function as the Group's lead specialist and technical advisor for the Group in matters relating to energy efficiency and carbon reduction.
To explore ways of strategic partnerships and collaborations for the implementation of climate change projects.
Support the GM (Sustainability) in data preparation and reporting of Net Zero progress & biodiversity updates, including in matters pertaining to the Management Sustainability Committee (“MSC”) & Board Sustainability Committee (“BSC”).
Develop a Supply Chain/LCA Carbon Management product roadmap in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Develop shared value partnerships that promote climate resiliency and enhance urban biodiversity regeneration/conservation.
Work closely with the wider Sustainability team to deliver energy and sustainability awareness and behavioural change initiatives across the University, to ensure that good environmental practices are embedded.
Support General Manager (Sustainability) in the development of strategy, annual management dialogues (“AMD”) presentation deck, Management and Board papers, contribute to the preparation of the annual budget, mid-year review, and other reports relevant to assigned duty/task.
Education/Professional Qualification
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant Sustainability-related technical, scientific, specialized, or operational field (environment, engineering, science, or similar). A post graduate degree in the similar field is an added advantage.
Professional certification in ESG, carbon management and reporting.
Membership of relevant professional body or post-graduate degree.
Worked in a sustainability-related position in a corporate company or has been involved in leading/supporting sustainability strategies and initiatives for at least 10 years.
Experience leading, developing and delivering high-performing projects, teams and complex operations in the Sustainability field.
Experienced in the development and implementation of a range of energy and carbon management projects, managing specific energy efficiency work programs, and preparing risk assessments in line with agreed targets and plans.
Successful experiences in the implementation of decarbonization initiatives to support carbon emissions reduction and deliver environmental benefits.
Experience in carbon accounting, analysis and interpretation of datasets, and use of data visualization tools to enable the reporting of complex information to strategic leaders and decision makers.
Strategy, policy and procedural development and implementation through deliverable programs, campaigns, and activity.
Procurement and contract management experience, demonstrating strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
Ideal essential skills/knowledge may include;
Good working knowledge of the case for climate change mitigation and adaptation, and an ability to communicate this effectively to diverse stakeholders.
Detailed knowledge of carbon management, the energy sector, renewable energy, and energy efficiencies within discrete projects and at scale.
Evidence of effective collaboration and partnership working with external stakeholders that deliver outcomes and agreed milestones. Demonstrating the ability to influence, motivate and nurture productive relationships.
Provide technical advice on energy legislation, policy, and operating procedures to support corporate carbon targets.
In depth understanding of approaches and measures that can be evidenced to reduce the environmental impact of the Group through a sustained shift in its carbon footprint.
Ability to apply managerial judgement to ensure service area objectives are achieved.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to achieve results for multiple, simultaneous projects with competing demands.
Excellent ICT abilities and a good working knowledge of innovative technologies, ability to use multiple systems and software applications.
