Position the role reports to: Head, Legal Regulatory & Compliance
Purpose
For this team:
The LRC BU ensures legal priorities are aligned, regulatory standards are adhered to, and compliance are regulated within the Company – internal and external engagements.
For this position:
The Legal Executive will provide comprehensive legal support to the business, ensuring compliance with laws, drafting and reviewing contracts, assist to manage disputes, and offering legal advice on a variety of operational and strategic matters. This role requires a strong ability to handle multiple legal aspects in a fast-paced environment.
Key Accountabilities
- Support day-to-day operational legal and regulatory needs.
- Conduct legal research to support decisions and actions.
- Assist with internal training on legal and compliance matters for the team.
- Monitor and keep track of all legal & statutory records, files, agreements, etc.
Contract Management
- Preparation, review and draft contracts, agreements and internal policies and ensure compliance with all statutory or legal requirements.
- Ensure timely renewals of contracts or terminations as needed.
- Review and advise on legal implications of internal policies and procedures.
- Research and analyse implications of case law, legislation, and regulatory matters and highlight/update to relevant department(s).
Legal Role
- Assist in simple agreements and standard agreements i.e. tenancy agreements, renewals, amendments, terminations, NDAs and correspondence related.
- Support the business in managing data protection and privacy-related matters.
- Protect and manage the company’s trademarks, copyrights, and other intellectual property assets.
- Strive to preserve and enhance the good reputation and goodwill of the Company.
Compliance
- Ensure the company complies with local, state, and national laws relevant to the retail industry.
- Understand contract law, corporate laws, companies act, and other laws and/or regulations relevant to the telecommunications industry.
- Keep updated on changes in regulations and advise management on necessary adjustments.
- Oversee compliance with consumer protection laws, advertising standards, and personal data protection laws and regulations.
Education Qualifications & Certificates
- Possess a Degree in Law (must be from institutions accredited or recognised by the Malaysian Bar Council). Admitted to the Malaysian Bar as advocate and solicitor is an advantage.
Professional Experience
- Knowledge in company law, contract law and basic legal principles gained from practical experience.
- 3 - 5 years’ experience working as a legal counsel in an in-house legal department and/or a law firm.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Required:
- Excellent proficiency in relevant IT skills, e.g. advanced word processing, Excel, and PowerPoint presentation skills.
- Ability to creatively present legal-related data/information in a simplified format using IT tools.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Fluent spoken and written English and Bahasa Malaysia.
- Candidates with in-house counsel experience in the telecommunications industry will have an added advantage.
- Passionate about learning and developing a better understanding of the application of law within the corporate world.
- Able to start immediately.
