OverviewPOSITION SUMMARY:
The Lead Engineer works in BMA Engineering Teams, reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, and owns the design and development activities for the floorcare appliances to their specification together with BISSELL’s suppliers. This position requires deep technical leadership across projects. The ideal candidate should have extensive electromechanical product design experience within consumer appliances, preferably floorcare, as well as extensive technical leadership experience, and proven capability in driving innovation and new products to market. Key responsibility is to lead innovation, product design, development and deliver projects from early development phase to integrate into BISSELL's new generation product.
ResponsibilitiesDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Products:
- As an Innovation Team Lead, own the design, engineering and technical maturity of our new products and features through detailed innovation process, rigorous specifications, requirements, testing, safety and compliance standards, performance results, quality, predictive star ratings, planning and clear communication with main stakeholders.
- Responsible for driving the advanced development of innovative floorcare products and collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, prototype, and test new technologies and features.
- Manage technical development activities on new products in the innovation process ensuring they are well communicated, understood, and executed in a timely manner as outlined by the BISSELL Global Product Development process.
- Assure complete requirements and technical specifications are defined for new products at the appropriate time during the development process.
- Design quality into the product by working collectively with the BISSELL Quality Team.
- Ensure the satisfactory completion of development aspects of work contracted by outside firms or suppliers.
- Project communications with BISSELL US, Singapore and China will be required regularly.
- Review and provide guidance to reporting engineers for 3D CAD, engineering drawing, prototype build, engineering build and product evaluation.
- Familiar with 3D CAD, engineering drawing and design experience in processes such as plastic injection molding, machining and consumer product assembly.
- Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously and travel if required.
- Prepare and present project updates, findings, and recommendations for innovation phase review.
- Conduct research on new technologies, components, materials, and market.
- Process and planning:
- Facilitate the use of BISSELL Innovation and Global Product Development Process on all innovations and product development projects.
- Propose and organize the development resources to support the approved projects.
- Collaborate with our suppliers throughout the region to support and drive them to deliver all aspects of our innovation and product development program.
- Cooperate in the mutual setting and implementation of department goals.
- Plan and maintain budgets as assigned.
- Manage continuous improvement program, drive design and development efficiency.

QualificationsREQUIRED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering required, preferably in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, industrial or manufacturing engineering.
- Experience level: 8 to 15+ years of work experience in a technical environment with a minimum of 3 to 8+ years of demonstrated experience leading technical and engineering teams in consumer appliance product design and development.
- Strength in engineering fundamentals and technical project management.
- Proven projects success in multiple locations, preferably within international company.
- Familiar with 3D CAD, engineering drawing standard, prototype and engineering build.
- Excellence in problem solving and analytical skills.
- Experience in TRIZ, DFSS, or other structured innovation methodologies will be an advantage.
- Strong communicator to motivate, operate, influence and convince engineers, peers and leaders.
- Good command of English speaking and writing.
