DANAU GIRANG FIELD CENTRE – Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
Danau Girang Field Centre invites applications from suitable qualified Malaysians for the position of Junior Wildlife Crime Analyst, to be based in Kota Kinabalu. This is a contract position for 2 years, until September 2026.
The role focuses on supporting the Sabah Wildlife Department with wildlife crime data analyses, identifying patterns, trends, and hotspots to inform enforcement efforts.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of wildlife crime data.
- Through data analysis, assist in identifying crime patterns, trends, and hotspots.
- Support the Field Intelligence Officer and Lead Wildlife Crime Analyst by providing data and reports.
- Collaborate with team members to help inform operations.
- Ensure the accuracy and quality of the data entered.
- Participate in team meetings as required.
Qualifications/Experience
- A minimum of one year’s experience in an analytical role.
- Possess a basic understanding of crime analysis principles.
- Familiarity with both quantitative and qualitative data analysis techniques.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and experience with data visualisation tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate findings clearly, both verbally and in written reports.
- Fluent in written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team.
- Use of i2 products like iBase and/or Analyst’s Notebook.
Position Background
This position is created under SHIELD (Sabah’s Harmonized Intelligence Enforcement and Legal Defence against Wildlife Crimes), a two-year collaborative project led by Sabah Wildlife Department, aimed at protecting Malaysia’s unique wildlife through the enhancement of law enforcement, cross-agency cooperation, and specialist training in Sabah. Training will be provided for this role.
