In this job role, you will work closely with procurement, suppliers, and the project management team. The Mechanical Engineering buyer has the ability to purchase goods, materials, and services to ensure that the company’s operational needs are met, taking into account price, quality, and delivery to ensure continuity of supply.
Key responsibilities:
- Negotiate contracts and improve prices and terms of business with new/existing suppliers; review opportunities to make cost savings by utilizing negotiation and procurement best practices.
- Maintain good communication and relationships with suppliers via a professional and consistent approach.
- Manage supplier relationships, including quality and supply issues, improving supplier performance, and building successful supply chain partnerships.
- Maintain regular communication with the Production Team to finalize and confirm the weekly production schedule based on customer requirements and available material stocks.
- Liaise with suppliers and related internal & external parties to ensure the purchasing processes run smoothly and consistently.
- Ensure compliance with company guidelines, purchasing policies, and procedures. The right candidates must be trustworthy, reliable, and have integrity.
- Complete the internal supplier approval process to ensure that all suppliers meet the relevant business standards and that all relevant certifications and records are up to date.
- Take ownership of daily activities regarding suppliers.
- Conduct research for new components and suppliers; identify and assess new supply options for current and upcoming purchasing requirements.
- Work closely with the procurement team and review opportunities for continuous improvement and business enhancements.
- Monitor market trends, competitor strategies, and market suppliers.
- Provide analysis on costs, new and existing, and review cost reduction activities.
- Have knowledge of purchasing within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven history of successful supplier negotiation – not compulsory.
- Demonstrate initiative and continuous improvement through the purchasing process.
- Deep knowledge of inventory and supply chain management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office & Excel Skills and purchasing software.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal (including Bahasa & English).
- Ability to work independently, with strong critical thinking and negotiation skills.
- Solid supervisory and management experience is preferred but not compulsory; it’s important for the candidate to have the right attitude, be honest, and reliable.
- Relevant Diploma or Bachelor’s degrees, or certificates in Business, Supply Chain/Purchasing field will be very useful.
