Baxian Group is an independent and privately owned group of companies (the “Group”) which hold licenses in various jurisdictions to conduct trust and companies management business. It has offices in Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, British Virgin Islands and various other jurisdictions. The Group provides trust, companies administration, fund administration and family office services to a global clientele.

We are looking to recruit an in-house legal counsel to be based in Kuala Lumpur who will support our operations. The position offers the candidate the opportunity to learn the legal and regulatory aspects of the trust and corporate service industry. The successful candidate will get the opportunity to be exposed to corporate matters and wealth management products such as trusts, mutual funds and estate planning, be exposed to the laws and regulations relevant to this industry and to be part of this exciting and fast-growing industry. Training and guidance will be provided. The successful candidate will be part of a legal team comprising local and overseas colleagues.

Job Description

  • In-house legal counsel to provide legal support to the Company’s and Group’s business operations.
  • Draft, revise and review legal documents, resolutions, agreements, power of attorneys and any ancillary documents in relation to the Group’s operations.
  • Advise clients on structures and products approved by the company.
  • Keep abreast of any legislative changes of the jurisdictions where the Group operates and advise relevant Group offices.
  • Keep up-to-date with recent tax and compliance developments and ensure relevant staff are being regularly updated.
  • Prepare legislative updates and circulars to clients.
  • Conduct in-house training.

Job Requirements

  • Possess at least Bachelor’s Degree in Law or equivalent qualification.
  • At least 5 years of legal practice/in-house legal experience.
  • Possess a Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) or called to the bar.
  • Previous experience in wealth management products or the corporate secretarial services sector in the offshore jurisdictions such as the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands or Labuan is an advantage but not a necessity.
  • Strong command of the English language and good communication skills.
  • Excellent planning, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to constantly learn on the job.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
