About the Role

To be responsible for overseeing all aspects of tax matters within UEM Group and CHQ companies and ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations, including improving tax efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Tax planning and strategy

  • Develop and implement a tax strategy that optimises the tax position of the company including Tax Corporate Governance Framework (“TCGF”).
  • Create a tax-efficient approach for transactions, taking into account transfer pricing, withholding taxes, sales & service tax (“SST”), capital gains tax, imported service tax, etc.
  • Keep abreast of changes in tax laws, regulations and rulings to ensure the organisation remains compliant and proactively identify potential risks or opportunities for the organisation. This involves conducting research, analysing complex tax issues and providing recommendations to management.
  • Collaborate with Finance team and other departments to ensure alignment and coordination on tax matters and to ensure tax strategies and policies are implemented efficiently in compliance with laws and regulations, including appropriate solutions to close the gaps.

Tax compliance & reporting

  • Monitor and review all tax computations; ensure the tax computations are prepared in compliance with latest tax laws and regulations; ensure finalisation and submission to Inland Revenue Board Malaysia (“IRBM”) before statutory timeline.
  • Review all tax estimates computation; recommend initial tax estimate amount (CP204) and subsequent tax revisions (CP204A) where required; ensure submission to IRBM before statutory timeline.
  • Liaise with IRBM and monitor the process of tax refunds and the approval for tax credit set-off against monthly tax instalment payment.
  • Monitor and review all transfer pricing documentation; ensure that they are prepared in compliance with the latest tax laws and regulations; ensure completion before statutory timeline.
  • Manage and oversee all tax related matters including but not limited to Global Minimum Tax (“GMT”), SST, Country-by-Country Reporting (“CbCR”) and other direct or indirect taxes.
  • Maintain documentation and records related to tax filings, provisions and other tax-related activities.

Tax audits/investigations/queries

  • Manage and oversee tax audits, investigations and inquiries from tax authorities, including but not limited to performing groundwork on the case, gathering necessary documentation and coordinating with relevant parties.
  • Ensure all tax audits, investigations and queries are resolved within the stipulated timeline with minimal impact to the organization.
  • Manage relationships with tax authorities during audits or tax disputes and ensure that appropriate strategies are in place to address tax inquiries, challenges, or disputes.
  • Prepare ad-hoc tax advice on all tax related matters for divisions/departments within UEM and CHQ Companies on daily transactions and strategic transactions (e.g. mergers and acquisitions) to ensure all are undertaken in the most tax efficient manner including exploring ways to maximise tax benefits whilst balancing tax risks.
  • Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders on tax related matters, including tax implications of business decisions and transactions.

Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or professional qualification with established professional accounting bodies.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in tax related work, preferably with experience in both tax compliance and tax advisory/planning with strong technical knowledge of Malaysian tax laws.
