We are pleased to be partnering with our valued client to recruit an experienced and dynamic Head of Risk (Banking) to lead their risk management function and ensure the financial stability, resilience, and compliance of this emerging bank. This is a pivotal leadership role where you will drive a strong risk culture, enhance operational excellence, and support the bank’s long-term strategic objectives. The role is based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

As Head of Risk, you will work closely with senior leadership and key stakeholders to develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive risk management frameworks. Your expertise will guide the bank in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks while ensuring regulatory compliance and operational integrity.

• Develop and implement a comprehensive risk management framework aligned with the bank’s strategic goals.
• Ensure adaptability to evolving market conditions and regulatory requirements.
• Drive initiatives for continuous improvement of risk management processes and tools.

• Lead the identification, assessment, and mitigation of key risks across all business units.
• Utilize advanced analytics and technology to enhance risk detection and response mechanisms.
• Maintain and enhance operational integrity across all subsidiaries.

• Collaborate with senior management to align risk management with business objectives and regulatory standards.
• Provide timely and accurate risk reports to the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and regulatory bodies.
• Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements, fostering a culture of compliance.

• Lead and mentor a high-performing risk team, promoting accountability and continuous learning.
• Develop training programs to enhance risk awareness and capabilities across the organization.
• Stay ahead of emerging risks and industry trends, integrating insights into the bank’s risk strategy.

• Oversee expense management within the risk function to ensure cost efficiency and optimal resource allocation.
• Develop and implement crisis response strategies to safeguard the bank against unforeseen events.
• Ensure readiness and effective crisis management protocols are in place across all departments.

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related field.
• Experience: Minimum 5-7 years in a similar role within the financial industry.
• Proven expertise in risk management, regulatory compliance, and operational risk frameworks.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel & Power Query) and risk management software.
• Experience in business continuity planning and crisis management.
• Strong leadership and team development capabilities.
