HEAD OF R & D AND ENGINEERING

JOB OBJECTIVE:

1. Utilize extensive leadership and design expertise to guide and drive R&D initiatives.
2. Lead and mentor cross-functional teams to enhance collaboration and performance in design and development.
3. Manage and oversee strategic R&D projects to align with organizational goals and drive impactful results.
4. Improve and optimize design and development processes to boost efficiency and effectiveness.

6. Foster a culture of innovation within the team to advance design and R&D efforts.
7. Ensure the successful completion of key R&D projects through effective management and oversight.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

1. Highly accomplished and driven switchgear designer with over 10 years of experience in designing & developing distribution equipment products with strong project management and leadership skills.
2. Experienced in design and development of:

• 12 KV Ring Main Units (RMU).
• Gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) 12/33 KV.
• Air insulated switchgear (AIS) 12/33 KV.
• Compact Substation Unit (CSU) 500 & 1000 KVA.
• Knowledge in Distribution Transformer.

• Provide strategic direction and oversight for R&D projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and market needs.
• Guide the development of innovative design solutions and cutting-edge technologies to drive competitive advantage.
• Understand the system’s functional parameters and technical capabilities before deployment.
• Prepare comprehensive design and technical documentation, including functional design reports (FDR), test and commissioning (T&C) procedures/plans, and more.
• Participate in system factory acceptance tests (FAT), prototypes, and other validation activities.
• Analyze project technical requirements and procedure-relevant design documentation.

• Lead and manage cross-functional teams, including designers, engineers, and product managers, to achieve project objectives.
• Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across departments to ensure seamless project execution.

• Spearhead the ideation and strategic planning of new products, processes, or technologies, leveraging industry trends and emerging technologies.
• Develop and implement strategies to foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the R&D department.

• Oversee the creation and review of high-level design documentation, project reports, and presentations to ensure accuracy and comprehensiveness.
• Ensure that all design documentation and reporting meet organizational standards and regulatory requirements.

• Address complex design and development challenges with strategic solutions and risk management approaches.
• Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions to mitigate issues and ensure project success.

• Evaluate and enhance R&D and design processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness and overall project quality.
• Implement best practices and process improvements to streamline operations and reduce time to market.

• Manage relationships with key clients and stakeholders, understanding their needs and aligning R&D efforts to meet their expectations.
• Provide high-level support and expertise during client interactions, project reviews, and product launches.

• Ensure that all R&D and design activities comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
• Oversee quality assurance processes to ensure that design outputs meet or exceed performance and quality benchmarks.

• Lead knowledge-sharing initiatives, including training and mentoring, to develop the team's capabilities and ensure continuity.
• Facilitate the transfer of best practices and innovative approaches to enhance the overall effectiveness of the R&D team.
