Job description

Position Overview: Epsom International School is seeking an experienced and proactive Head Chef to lead our kitchen operations, managing daily meal preparation for up to 1,000 students and staff. We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in food safety, cleanliness, and compliance, preferably with experience in the education or boarding school sector. The Head Chef will collaborate with the Executive Chef on menu development and maintain open communication with school administration, kitchen staff, and Group F&B management to ensure alignment on service expectations, dietary requirements, and incident management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the kitchen team to uphold the highest standards of food safety and hygiene, adhering to HACCP protocols and ISO requirements.
  • Work with the Executive Chef to develop balanced, nutritious, and diverse menus that cater to the dietary needs of the school community.
  • Maintain open communication with school administrators, Executive Chef, kitchen staff, and Group F&B management to align on service expectations, dietary requirements, and any incidents.
  • Manage administrative tasks, including inventory, budgeting, and ordering, ensuring efficient and cost-effective operations.
  • Coordinate daily meal production, providing consistent and high-quality food service from 1,000 students and staff.
  • Train and supervise kitchen staff on food safety protocols, cleanliness standards, and compliance requirements, fostering a collaborative and responsible work environment.
  • Implement and monitor strict cleaning and sanitation practices throughout all kitchen and dining areas.
  • Ensure comprehensive documentation and reporting for compliance and food safety, supporting continuous improvement and readiness for inspections.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Significant experience as a Head Chef in a similar industry, ideally within an international school or boarding school setting.
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP protocols, ISO standards, and other relevant food safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively across various levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills, with experience in budgeting, inventory management, and compliance reporting.
  • Culinary certification or degree in culinary arts or a related field is required.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in English is required.

Preferred Experience:

  • Background in the education sector, particularly within a boarding school environment, with experience in large-scale meal service for 1,500 pax.
  • Familiarity with diverse dietary needs and restrictions, with an ability to create balanced and appealing meal options.
