Global Lead, Sustainability Engagement at Wilmar International

ABOUT THE JOB

This role will be part of the team that monitors the implementation of Wilmar’s Sustainability Policy on No Deforestation, No Peat, and No Exploitation (NDPE) in Wilmar’s supply chain. The candidate will join a global sustainability team and assist in the implementation of the NDPE policy using GIS mapping and analysis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Integrate, compile and monitor deforestation alerts or data received from satellite monitoring platforms
  • Identify and monitor deforestation and peat development via GIS desktop analysis
  • Source satellite images/maps, digitize, analyse and produce the imagery and map outputs
  • Produce general reports, maps, and results of the analysis from various GIS desktop analysis
  • Identify and map fragile areas, High Conservation Value (HCV) Areas and High Carbon Stock (HCS) forest following the Common Guidance for the Identification of HCV and The HCS approach toolkit
  • Support investigation and verification of NDPE non-compliance cases that link to deforestation, peat development and illegal land clearing via GIS desktop analysis and field visit when required
  • Support the field verification of the HCV-HCSA assessment and to generate maps and relevant files for the assessment report especially in forest and vegetation stratification and patch analysis
  • Design and maintain geodatabases using field-acquired data and data from third-party sources
  • Digitize concession boundary from raster format to shapefiles and GeoPDF format
  • Conduct topology check and fix digitizing errors
  • Perform other functions/duties as assigned by the team lead/management

Qualifications:

  • Minimum BSc qualification in GIS technology, geography, environmental science or related field
  • Minimum one year experience in related field. Fresh graduates are encouraged to apply
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to convey complex information
  • Experience in GIS analysis and spatial mapping
  • Experience in spatial data integration and geodatabase management
  • Knowledge and familiarity of technical design applications like ArcView GIS or ESRI extensions
  • Able to travel and work at remote sites if required
  • Experience in GIS related development is an added advantage
  • Knowledge of High Conservation Values (HCV) and High Carbon Stock Approach (HSCA) methodologies is an added advantage
  • Experience in conducting field work in rural settings is an added advantage
