EXECUTIVE, OPERATIONS SAFETY SPECIALIST

Job Description

Responsible for ensuring PTP is compliant with Safety & Health Regulations, organizational standards, and industry best practices. Plays a functional, scientific role in PTP.

Role & Impact

1. Implementation of safety and health compliance activities as per local regulation, ISO 45001, and PTP standards.
2. Continuously improve and develop effective and sustainable solutions for safety challenges, risks, and requirements.

Functional Management

1. Creation of a Safe Working Environment through interactions with the area owners and awareness campaigns.

Compliance

1. Identifying safety breaches and non-compliance, disciplinary proceedings in accordance with the PTP Policy and acting as a Safety Culture change ambassador.

Functional Management

1. To provide monitoring and inspections of the port operations to ensure PTP remains in compliance with Malaysian regulatory and legislative requirements such as OSHA 1994 and FMA 1967.
2. To perform routine checks based on provided checklists for actual and potential risk sources within the operations work sites to ensure a safe system of work is supervised and applied by the workers.
3. Carrying out inspections for all safety gear.
4. Completing vessel inspections for vessels calling PTP and updating the results in the Safety Specialist database.

Stakeholder Management

1. To provide site discussions with supervisors and workers as required when diversion from the safe system of work is identified, ensuring correct information and instructions are provided and reporting the outcomes to the head of department.

Risk Management

1. To provide review and risk assessment for approval with any Permit-to-Work (PTW) applications for traffic management.

Supporting Team

1. Any other related job as instructed by HOS/HSE GM.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Skills

1. Requires completion of secondary school and vocational instruction and/or diploma in safety management, or completion of NIOSH or NEBOSH safety officer course, environmental science, police science, or related discipline.

Experience

1. Requires at least 3 years of operational safety and/or firefighting experience, either in the public or private sector, and at least three years of supervisory experience.
2. Minimum 3 years experience within a container terminal environment.

Skills

1. Possess a valid driving license with a minimum Class D to operate light vehicles.
2. Requires good problem-solving skills, with an ability to define the problem, examine solutions, and select the best solution, often under stress.
3. Requires the ability to communicate and write in both English and Malay.
4. Requires excellent organizational skills, including planning, directing, and monitoring activities.
5. Self-starter with the ability to manage oneself without direct supervision.
6. Ability to manage conflict and extreme diversity with a calm manner and objective abilities.
7. Requires understanding of local safety rules and regulations and an understanding of international standards of safe work practices for the industry.
