Estimating Engineer

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Estimating Engineer to join a dynamic and forward-thinking organisation within the energy sector. This role plays a crucial part in supporting tendering and project teams by preparing accurate and timely cost estimates for subsea and offshore projects. If you have a keen eye for detail, strong commercial awareness, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, this position is for you.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Prepare and coordinate cost estimates, ensuring accuracy and compliance with estimating guidelines.
  2. Analyse technical, commercial, and contractual bid inputs to eliminate errors or inconsistencies.
  3. Assist in preparing commercial responses to client tenders.
  4. Contribute to contingency analysis and cash flow reports where required.
  5. Work closely with procurement teams to obtain subcontractor quotations and finalise tender pricing.
  6. Secure necessary management approvals for tender proposal pricing and any subsequent adjustments.
  7. Participate in post-tender clarifications and meetings, ensuring all responses align with corporate principles.
  8. Maintain a benchmarking database and assist in analysing competitive positions.
  9. Support the tendering team with documentation, presentations, procedures, and administrative tasks.
  10. Ensure compliance with company procedures and guidelines throughout all estimating activities.

What You’ll Need

  1. Education: Degree or diploma in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering or a Commercial/Business-related discipline.
  2. Experience: 3-5 years in estimating, contracts engineering, or a similar role within the oil and gas industry.
  3. Technical Knowledge:
    1. Strong understanding of onshore, offshore, and subsea EPCI projects.
    2. Knowledge of Services & Rental models is highly desirable.
    3. Proficiency in estimating tools such as Excel or specialised software.
  4. Skills:
    1. Excellent communication and negotiation skills in English (both written and verbal).
    2. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    3. Ability to work independently and within multi-disciplinary teams.
