Engineering Technician 2 (Refrigeration)

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

General

1. Follow and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions as necessary.
2. Independently perform preventive maintenance tasks on a scheduled basis to prevent breakdowns and ensure optimal performance.
3. Analyze blueprints, schematics, and manuals to understand equipment and system specifications.
4. Calibrate equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability in their performance.
5. Utilize diagnostic tools and techniques to identify the root causes of equipment problems.
6. Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while performing maintenance tasks.
7. Implement and uphold food safety and quality standards in all maintenance tasks.
8. Participate in safety training programs and promote a culture of safety among team members.
9. Participate in training programs to enhance technical knowledge.
10. Collaborate with technicians and engineers on complex repairs.
11. Assist in the procurement and organization of replacement parts.
12. Monitor and analyze equipment downtime trends, providing insights for improvement.

Technical

1. Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems; repair or replace defective parts in units, equipment, and controls.
2. Install and rectify air conditioning/refrigeration components and equipment.
3. Inspect systems and their components (e.g., air conditioning, heating and refrigeration units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units) for the purpose of ensuring safety and identifying necessary repairs, providing an ongoing program of preventive maintenance.
4. Troubleshoot refrigeration equipment failures to identify equipment and/or systems repair and replacement needs.
5. Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance as needed to ensure that the refrigeration (ammonia & freon) and other assigned facilities systems function effectively.
6. Clean cooler units and refrigeration facilities (e.g., coils, condensation pans, drain lines, cooling towers) to ensure units are performing as required.
7. Prepare documentation (e.g., records of refrigerants, paperwork, logs, time and materials, specifications) to provide written support in compliance with regulations and/or conveying information.
8. Operate a variety of hand and power tools, vacuum pumps, and test equipment utilized in the trade; maintain equipment in effective and safe working condition.
9. Maintain records of maintenance activities, including part replacements, inspections, and lubrication schedules.
10. Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues to report maintenance findings and request assistance when needed.
