Electrical Engineer

Purpose Statement: As an Electrical Design Engineer at Plexus Engineering Solutions (Penang Design Center), you will design and develop Power Distribution Unit for products across a wide range of industries. This role collaborates with talented mechanical, quality, manufacturing and test engineers throughout all phases of the product development life cycle - from idea and conceptualization; through requirements, design, and development; to manufacturing transition and into the market.

Key Job Accountabilities

1. Architect and design electrical systems for industrial and Semi Cap market sectors
2. Create and develop detailed schematic, cable routing diagram & 3D models of electrical panel designs leveraging tools such as AutoCAD
3. Prepare and maintain comprehensive Bills of Material (BOM) for each project, detailing component specifications and quantities required for production
4. Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and technical requirements specific to electrical panel manufacturing
5. Develop prototypes and conduct rigorous testing to validate product designs meet performance requirements, quality, and cost goals.
6. Demonstrate problem-solving skills in electrical system debugging/troubleshooting of typical issues encountered within the product development cycle
7. Experience with Arc Flash and electrical safety calculations, safety protocols, and implementation of product safety plans
8. Coordinate overcurrent protection equipment such as breakers and fuses within a power distribution system
9. Size and specify conductors within power equipment in alignment with electrical standards and best practices
10. Ability to use common tools and techniques to assemble an electrical panel or provide guidance for the assembly of an electrical panel.

Education/Experience Qualifications

1. Masters/Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering is required. Consideration will be given to candidates with other degrees that have E&E overlap – (e.g. Electronics /Mechanical / Industrial Design / Mechatronics Engineering etc.) as long as strong experience/ background in electrical design can be demonstrated.
2. Well versed with engineering calculations with respect to power consumption, current capacity / loading, shielding related to instruments, machinery and automation systems.
3. Industry experience requirements vary for the position applied depending on the level applied for.
4. Experience in control system, safety circuit and PLC
5. Knowledge on electrical standards such as UL 508a, NFPA 70, NFPA 79, SEMI S2, SEMI S23
6. Knowledge of good EMC design practices for board/system level designs as well as EMC test and troubleshooting experience.
7. For Staff Level 7+ years of experience is required
