WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

As the Senior Back End Developer, you’ll work as part of a talented team of GAM to deliver web applications and services. We are looking for top notch software engineers who are great team players and obsessive about the quality of their code and delivered service. You’ll have the opportunity to grow and expand your capabilities within the RBC development community as learning and knowledge sharing will be second nature while applying your technical know-how to ensure that RBC is on the leading edge of development practices.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

1. Develop software solutions by studying information needs; conferring with users; studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes; investigating problem areas.
2. Determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions.
3. Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code.
4. Create new services using the latest technologies which will shape the future for RBC GAM Digital Team.
5. Collaborate with other developers on the team to model and design new API interfaces.
6. Develop and support highly scalable, high-performance APIs.
7. Ensure high code quality through automated unit and functional testing.
8. Automate processes within the development pipeline; identify opportunities for efficiency gains and reducing time-to-market, and enabling continuous delivery.
9. Design and develop code structures to promote reusability across many applications.
10. Work within a talented team comprised of technical, product and business team members to deliver exceptional products.
11. Stay open-minded and look beyond your stack to solve complex problems.
12. Actively seek out knowledge about new technologies and how they can be used to solve current and foreseeable challenges.
13. Excellent communication including the ability to distill technical details into human terms.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

MUST HAVE:

1. B.S. degree in Computer Science or related technical field (e.g. EE, physics or mathematics), or equivalent practical experience.
2. 3 years experience with Node.js, Angular or React frameworks.
3. 3 years of proficient experience in JavaScript & TypeScript languages.
4. 3 years experience with web technologies such as HTML, HTTP and CSS.
5. 2 years experience developing distributed cloud applications (Pivotal Cloud Foundry, OpenShift, Azure, Docker).
6. Relational Database and data modeling experience using SQL Server.
7. Hands-on experience designing, developing, testing, and troubleshooting RESTful API and interface specifications (Swagger).
8. Experience in writing unit tests, component tests.
9. Experience working with DevOps pipelines (Git, Maven, Jenkins), continuous integration / delivery, automated testing (unit, functional, performance).
10. Experience working within professional software engineering practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source code management, build processes and testing.
11. Understanding of agile methodologies and project management using JIRA.
12. Familiarity with UML and Design patterns.

NICE-TO-HAVE:

1. Capital Markets and Wealth management industry experience.
2. Experience working with Redis, Non-relational databases, and other caching technologies.
3. Experience in TDD methodologies.
4. Working experience in one or more of:
1. Algorithm design and optimization.
2. Large-scale systems.
3. Parallel or distributed systems.
4. RDBMS and/or modern scale-out repositories (SQL Server, Redis).
5. Micro-service design and implementation (load balancing, discovery, resiliency).
6. OCP, Azure, PCF, Apigee.
7. Experience with code merging and branching methodologies using Git and the code release process.
8. Experience supporting production-level software (SRE, Dynatrace).
9. Ability to simplify complex problems and communicate them in plain language.
10. Develop mocks to support testing.
