Job description

Job Summary
The Technical Manager is responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of elevator and escalator systems, including site visit, installation, testing, maintenance & Inventory. The role involves managing a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring that all systems are installed and maintained according to safety standards, quality control guidelines, and customer requirements. The Technical Manager also ensures that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.

  • Oversee the efficient management of lift installations, preventive maintenance, and emergency repair services for clients.
  • Provide technical direction to the team and coordinate with other departments like sales, procurement, and operations.
  • Offer solutions to complex technical challenges in elevator systems.
  • Monitor technical performance during the lifecycle of projects from concept through to maintenance.
  • Oversee the development of elevator systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the design team to develop customized solutions based on client specifications.
  • Plan, execute, and oversee technical projects related to elevator systems, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to technical specifications.
  • Manage resource allocation and project scheduling to ensure smooth execution.
  • Monitor the installation and maintenance of elevators to ensure compliance with local safety codes, regulations, and company standards.
  • Ensure all technical documents, such as design layouts, reports, and testing results, are accurate and complete.
  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, technicians, and other technical personnel.
  • Provide training and development to ensure that team members stay current with new technologies and industry standards.
  • Liaise with clients, addressing any technical queries or issues.
  • Provide technical support for pre-sales and after-sales services.
  • Supervise maintenance activities to ensure smooth, long-term functioning of elevator systems.
  • Address escalated technical issues from the maintenance team.
  • Ensure adherence to safety and regulatory guidelines during design, installation, and maintenance phases.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and reports.


Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Ensure that the team is using the latest and most efficient technologies in design and installation.
  • Drive innovation in product development and system performance enhancement.
  • Ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of projects without compromising on quality.
  • Oversee resource allocation, timeline management, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their technical requirements are met and that they are satisfied with the service provided.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the technical team to ensure they are motivated, trained, and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Ensure all work adheres to legal and industry safety standards, including compliance with local, national, and international elevator regulations. (e.g., CIDB, DOSH, JKKP, EN, local safety standards, ISO certifications, ASME).
    Audit and inspection results.


Domain Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of lift and escalator systems, including electrical, mechanical, and control systems.
  • Experience in lift installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of service operations, including scheduling, resource management, and SLAs.
  • Expertise in managing and executing service contracts, renewals, and customer expectations.
  • Proven experience in managing key accounts and customer relationships.
  • Ability to handle complex service inquiries, manage escalations, and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulations related to lift systems, such as EN 81, ISO 9001, and local government regulations.
  • Expertise in conducting safety audits, risk assessments, and ensuring operational safety in service activities.
  • In-depth knowledge of elevator system components, such as motors, controllers, doors, and safety systems.
  • Expertise in designing and configuring elevators and related systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies (e.g., MS Office, Sales force).
  • Familiarity with local and international standards (e.g., JKKP, CIDB, EN 81, ASME A17.1, ISO) related to elevator installation, safety, and maintenance.
  • Strong ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues in elevator and escalator systems.
  • Proficient in explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, including clients and vendors.

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and service requests efficiently.


Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Certifications in CIDB, CP (JKKP) would be preferred.


Experience Requirements

  • At least 8-12 years of experience in the lift/elevator industry, with a minimum of 3-5 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Proven experience managing Installation, service operations, client relationships, and leading teams in the vertical transportation or facilities management industry.
  • Previous experience in lift/elevator installation, service, and maintenance is essential.
  • Experience managing service contracts, client expectations, and operational costs.
  • English: Proficiency in both spoken and written English.
  • Local Languages: Proficiency in local language & Mandarin is highly desirable for effective client communication and internal coordination.
