Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

Work assigned is not limited to the job scope listed below, and may be assigned to another function based on the workload and requirement:

  • This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage large datasets effectively, with knowledge of investment data being an advantage.
  • Candidates must work independently, communicate effectively with stakeholders, and proactively identify and resolve data-related issues.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Data Quality Management

  • Establish a structured data profiling and remediation process on Critical Data Elements (CDE) defined by data consumers.
  • Advise on business rules maintenance such as creating, updating, and modifying the security master files, portfolio characteristics, market data, etc.
  • Ensure timely and accurate data entry into the investment management system.
  • Develop and maintain data management procedures and documentation, and implement data quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform regular housekeeping on reference data in the system to ensure the capability of further data analytics.
  • Identify and resolve data discrepancies and issues promptly.
  • Monitor and maintain data quality, ensuring integrity, accuracy, consistency, and completeness of the golden copy record. Data must be clean and available for users’ consumption on a timely basis.

2. Master Data Management

  • Ensure a single version of truth is established for CDEs shared across multiple users.
  • Collect, validate, and maintain investment data from various sources, including market data providers, custodians, and internal systems.
  • Establish and create a single source of truth for investment data based on multiple sources and providers interfaced to EPF core investment and fund accounting systems.
  • Implement processes to validate and ensure the quality of data within the golden copy before disseminating to upstream and downstream systems.
  • Ensure that updates to the golden copy are synchronized across all relevant systems and platforms and collaborate with other system administrators to maintain consistency.
  • Perform regular data validation and reconciliation to identify and resolve discrepancies.

3. Metadata Management

  • Maintain a structured and comprehensive data documentation for all CDEs such as data attributes, transformation rules, and business glossary.
  • Ensure consistent use of specific standardized data sets such as security identifiers, currency, issuer, and country codes across multiple systems and collaborate with other system administrators to maintain consistency.
  • Build, manage and maintain a comprehensive metadata inventory which covers the data definition, source, lineage, formats, & standards.

4. Department’s Data Steward

  • Ensure all data management activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Monitor and manage data-related risks and implement controls to mitigate them.
  • Define data definition, information classification, CDEs, and business rules for Data Quality (DQ) & Data Loss Protection (DLP).
  • Ensure compliance and effective communication of Data Governance policy, Information Classification, Labelling & Handling Guidelines (ICHG), DLP Framework & any other relevant processes to business users.
  • Act as Data Change Agent to disseminate relevant communications on Data Governance, ICHG, and DLP.
  • Determine authorised users and access permissions on the Data, Information & DLP whitelisting.
  • Coordinate, investigate, and propose solutions to resolve data quality issues & DLP incidents.
  • Manage and protect information assets in accordance with following legal, audit, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
  • Escalate significant data issues to the Data Owner or Data Steward Working Group for resolution.
  • Report incident summary to Data Owners.
  • Ensure adequate protection of the information assets.

5. Collaboration & Business Technical Consultations

  • Collaborate with business leaders to identify information needs and translate them into data requirements.
  • Work closely with IT and data engineering teams to ensure the data infrastructure supports accurate and efficient data analysis.
  • Partner with other analysts and data scientists to develop data-driven solutions to business problems.
  • Act as a liaison between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders to ensure clear communication and understanding.
  • Coordinate test planning between business users and relevant parties such as vendor, consultant, IT Dept.) when required.
  • Update manual operation, working instructions, automation templates, documentations, and paperwork related to data management and operations.
  • Provide continuous and excellent support for any projects/initiatives carried out by the department or organisation.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science/ Computer Science/ Statistics/ Finance/ Mathematics/ Financial Engineering/ Business Management/ Data Analyst or other related qualifications that are recognised by the Government of Malaysia.
  • Having at least 5 years of experience in the field of data management/ fund accounting system supports/ data maintenance/ investment back-office operation/ capital market operation.
  • Possess Oracle SQL knowledge.
  • Excellent knowledge in financial instruments, market data, and investment operations.
  • Ability to leverage technology and automation to improve operational efficiency.
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing business conditions or technological advancements.
  • Malaysian citizen.
  • Pass the Malay Language including an oral test at the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level or equivalent as recognised by the Government.
