Piping Stress Engineer (Entry-Mid Level)

  • Prepare specifications, standards and concepts for the works to comply with job requirements.
  • Perform stress analysis on piping systems using CAESAR-II ensuring compliance with specifications, codes and standards.
  • Evaluate computed stress, equipment nozzle, flange leakage, trunnion calculations, loads for pipe supports and thermal displacements.
  • Prepare analysis reports, datasheets and other technical documents.
  • Collaborate with design engineers for appropriate pipe and structural supports.
  • Work closely with piping design, mechanical, civil & structural and process teams to ensure seamless design integration.
  • Develop and maintain schedules and progress reports for piping stress analysis tasks.
  • Coordinate with discipline engineers and piping component vendors for technical issues.
  • Provide recommendations for modifications or improvements to design.
  • Plan, schedule and oversee the quality control of the works to ensure timely and budget-compliant completion.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing, innovation and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Stay updated on emerging tools, technologies and industry codes relevant to piping stress analysis.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • 1-5 years of experience in piping stress analysis (internships or entry-level roles count).
  • Familiarity with key industry standards such as ASME31.3, EJMA, API, Shell DEP and Petronas PTS.
  • Strong knowledge in preparing engineering specifications, instructions and work procedures relevant to piping stress analysis.
  • In-depth understanding of pipe support selection and design.
  • Hands-on experience in interpreting piping isometrics, piping arrangement drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID).
  • Basic knowledge of piping systems in oil & gas, petrochemical, and chemical processing plants.
  • Proficient in CAESAR II and AUTOCAD software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with progress monitoring, control practices and quality assurance.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint as a minimum).
  • Excellent command of English, both spoken and written.
  • Awareness of finite element analysis (FEA) methods and tools is beneficial.
  • Understanding of vibration analysis such as for acoustic-induced vibration (AIV) and flow-induced vibration (FIV) is a plus.
