Wastewater Technician

Job Responsibilities

• Assist superior in managing wastewater treatment system and environmental management to comply with all legal requirements under Environmental Quality Act 1974.
• Conduct performance monitoring for each of the wastewater treatment systems to ensure efficiency.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and troubleshoot on the wastewater treatment system.
• Perform quality control checks and initiate maintenance work for malfunctioning equipment that may lead to non-compliance with environmental standards.
• Ensure performance monitoring tools are always in good condition and update direct superior on calibration status.
• Collect wastewater samples and conduct regular in-house laboratory tests (pH, DO, COD, TSS, MLSS, MLVSS, SV30, etc.) to ensure discharge quality complies with Standard B and report lab testing data daily to the direct superior.
• Assist in monitoring chemical usage and optimization of the wastewater system by conducting jar tests and reporting to the superior.
• Manage the sludge treatment system and ensure proper disposal of sludge as required; illegal disposal is prohibited.
• Record all performance monitoring data and keep documents up-to-date for auditing and authorities’ review for at least 3 years.
• Assist superior in ensuring wastewater samples are collected by an external accredited laboratory weekly and report to the superior.
• Assist in submitting wastewater reports to DOE using the OER system on a monthly basis and report to the direct superior.
• Ensure chemical SDS is up-to-date and maintain good conditions of the chemical storage area.
• Arrange daily tasks for subordinates and monitor attendance/performance, reporting any issues to the direct superior.
• Conduct daily housekeeping at the sump area and clear the oil and grease trap weekly; report to the direct superior daily.
• Assist in controlling activities relating to waste discharge into the environment that leads to water pollution.
• Assist in managing scheduled waste in compliance with Environmental Quality (Scheduled Waste) Regulation 2005.
• Maintain the scheduled waste store in good condition and comply with regulations such as signage and bunding conditions; ensure it is always locked to allow entry only to authorized personnel.
• Assist direct superior in ensuring scheduled waste is stored in proper containers and labeled correctly.
• Assist in scheduling waste disposal collection times and ensure the licensed contractor undergoes weighbridge in and out by coordinating with warehouse personnel and security.
• Comply with all legal requirements for safety, health, and environment.
• Undertake other responsibilities assigned by direct superior from time to time.

Job Requirements

• Possess at least a Diploma in Environmental or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of working experience in a similar capacity is preferred.
• Competency in CePIETSO-BP/CePIETSO-PCP is an advantage.
• Result-oriented, with a strong sense of responsibility, urgency, and commitment to meeting deadlines efficiently.
• Must be willing to work in Pulau Indah, Klang.
