The Matron carries executive authority and is responsible for managing the entire nursing division of the hospital in accordance with the vision, mission, and core values of the hospital and keeping within policies, directives, and budgets that are approved by the Board of Directors.
The Matron will ensure that the quality and standard of nursing care for patients upholds the hospital mission and vision.
The Matron monitors the performance of nursing staff, strives to improve standards of nursing care at all times, and ensures that the governing laws of Malaysia and regulations of the Ministry of Health Malaysia are complied with.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage nursing services to ensure that the delivery of nursing care is in accordance with recognized national standards.
- Ensure that the operation of the nursing division is efficient and effective at all times. This includes general deployment of nursing staff in the various departments.
- Work in close liaison with Heads of Department in the hospital, especially the nursing departments. Communicate effectively and professionally with all hospital departments, in the spirit of respect, cooperation, and teamwork.
- Ensure that nursing policies are implemented and review/update nursing procedures and operating protocols whenever necessary.
- Ensure that nursing performance meets the ISO 9001:2000 requirements.
- Monitor the staffing level of the nursing division and health issues of nursing staff that may arise.
- Check that the disposal of clinical waste is in compliance with national governing laws and regulations.
- Develop and coordinate plans for updating and improving nursing knowledge and skills, such as through in-house workshops and seminars.
- When called upon, assist in the recruitment of new nursing staff, draw up plans for expansion of nursing service, and nominate deserving staff for further specialized training in recognized external programs.
- The Matron will work closely with the Clinical Director and Hospital Consultants and will be an active member of the Executive Team of the hospital.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years experience.
- State Registered Nursing certificate with a current Annual.
- Bachelor of Nursing Degree from an institution recognized by the Ministry of Health, Malaysia.
- Previous administrative experience in managing nurses and its supporting staff.
- Strong leadership and organization skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
