General Manager -Development

About the role

Selat Kemuning Sdn Bhd is seeking an experienced General Manager - Construction to oversee the execution of complex construction projects in Kuching, Sarawak. In this full-time position, you will be responsible for leading a team of project managers and ensuring the successful delivery of construction initiatives that are critical to the company's growth and expansion.

What you'll be doing

• Provide overall leadership and management of construction projects from inception to completion.
• Develop and implement operational strategies to ensure efficiency, profitability, and quality in construction operations.
• Oversee multiple construction sites, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and safety standards.
• Manage relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure satisfaction and compliance with contract terms.
• Ensure all projects meet legal, regulatory, and safety standards.
• Review and approve project budgets, schedules, and resource allocation.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of project managers, engineers, and field personnel.
• Monitor market trends, identifying opportunities for growth and improvement in construction practices.
• Report to senior management on project status, budget performance, and operational improvement.

What we're looking for

• Minimum 10-15 years of experience in the construction industry with 10-15 years in a senior management or general manager/leadership role.
• Strong understanding of construction project management, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and resource management.
• Proven ability to lead and motivate large teams, managing both field and office operations.
• In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, building codes, and construction laws.
• Strong financial acumen with the ability to manage project budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficient in construction management software and tools.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field. A Master's degree or relevant certification is a plus.
