Job Details:

Purpose
The purpose/mission of the Director of Operations is to oversee and optimize all operational aspects of the facility to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective production of quality products. This role involves managing various departments, coordinating activities, and implementing strategies to achieve production targets while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and ensuring the safety of employees.

Overall, the Director of Operations plays a crucial role in ensuring the manufacturing facility's smooth, safe, and efficient functioning, driving operational excellence, and delivering quality food products to customers.

Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategic Direction

  1. Provide overall leadership and direction to Manufacturing Operations, Engineering & Maintenance (Line Equipment, Utilities and Facilities), and Operational Excellence teams of Tyson Malaysia.
  2. Collaborate with senior management to develop and align operational strategies with overall business objectives.
  3. Lead the development of intermediate and long-term plans to support the growth and sustainability of manufacturing capabilities, including engineering, quality, safety, equipment acquisition, and capacity planning.
  4. Engage and lead special projects as directed by the VP of Tyson Malaysia (such as operational process assessment and improvement projects, operational metrics definition, cost analysis, etc.); prepare executive reports and presentations when needed.
  5. Provide leadership and guidance to SAP lead and team members, ensuring effective utilization of resources and adherence to established processes and procedures.
  6. Conduct regular coaching to motivate the team, and/or mentoring in the facilitation of methods/operation tools.

Operations Management & Optimization

  1. Develop and implement strategies for operations to optimize production processes and increase efficiency to achieve the company's overall objectives and targets.
  2. Communicate and align operations objectives and performance results throughout the site, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
  3. Lead routine performance management for operations and overall equipment efficiency, driving company productivity system towards continuous improvements/operational excellence.
  4. Develop operations project plans for Data Analytics, Automation & Digitization; coordinate projects; communicate changes and progress.
  5. Ensure compliance with internal/external audits.
  6. Establish and maintain quality control processes in overall manufacturing operations to ensure that products meet customer requirements and specifications.
  7. Manage usage and inventory levels in the manufacturing areas to ensure that raw materials and finished goods are available as needed.
  8. Monitor and analyze operations key performance metrics (financial and operational) to identify opportunities for improvement.
  9. Drive initiatives related to capital investment, manufacturing strategy, and innovation to enhance overall operations performance.
  10. Collaborate with the supply chain team to optimize material flow, inventory management, and logistics, ensuring timely delivery and cost efficiency.
  11. Foster collaboration and cross-functional teamwork across different departments to achieve operational excellence.
  12. Drive margin and productivity initiatives to improve profitability and operational efficiency.

Safety & Compliance

  1. Support safety as a top priority, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and implementing effective safety programs for operations. This includes ensuring that all operation activities are carried out in compliance with relevant safety, health, and environmental regulations.

Food Safety & Quality

  1. Establish and maintain quality control processes in overall manufacturing operations to ensure that products meet customer requirements and specifications.
  2. Ensure compliance with food safety standards and regulations, implementing effective food safety programs throughout the manufacturing facility.
  3. Conduct regular audits and inspections to verify adherence to food safety and quality protocols.
  4. Develop and implement corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives to address food safety and quality issues.

Stakeholder Management & Collaboration

  1. Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
  2. Foster collaboration and cross-functional teamwork across different departments to achieve operational excellence.

Talent Development

  1. Develop and implement training and development programs to ensure that operations team members are equipped with the necessary skills to perform their jobs effectively and are aligned with company values.
  2. Ensure technical leadership and excellence is maintained by overseeing the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of the required talents.
  3. Develop and mentor a high-performing team, promoting professional growth and talent development within the organization.

Continuous Improvement & Lean Six Sigma

  1. Develop and implement the Lean Six Sigma program strategy and roadmap for the overall company operations, aligning it with organizational goals and objectives.
  2. Drive a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence by promoting the adoption of Lean Six Sigma principles and methodologies throughout the manufacturing facility.
  3. Drive organizational transformation by fostering a team-based environment and engaging all employees in continuous improvement initiatives.
  4. Stay updated on industry trends and advancements, incorporating relevant best practices and technologies into the manufacturing operations.

Financial Management

  1. Develop and manage operational expenses and budgets to ensure that the operations teams operate within financial constraints.
  2. Collaborate with the Project team to develop and manage capital budgets and expenses about Operational needs to ensure that the expenditures are within financial constraints.

Qualifications/Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, with a focus on Electrical/ Mechanical/ Manufacturing Management disciplines.
  2. Minimum of 15 years of working experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment, with at least 5 years in a senior manager leadership role.
  3. Certified as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and experienced in leading and implementing Lean Six Sigma projects.
  4. Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences.
  5. Excellent interpersonal skills, fostering strong relationships and collaboration across teams and stakeholders.
  6. Demonstrated analytical ability, utilizing data-driven approaches to problem-solving and decision-making.
  7. Progressive career experiences that showcase the mastery of skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the defined responsibilities.
  8. Proficient in facilitation and strategic influencing, enabling effective engagement and alignment among team members and key stakeholders.
  9. Skilled in strategic planning, managing, and controlling resources, and optimizing efficiency and productivity.
  10. Strong project management expertise, with a track record of successfully leading and delivering projects on time and within budget.
