Your day at NTT DATA

The Director, Construction Projects is a leadership role responsible for contributing to the strategic planning, and the execution and management of data center construction projects. This role involves overseeing multiple projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The Director, Construction Projects collaborates with cross-functional teams, manages resources, and provides technical expertise to support the organization's data center infrastructure needs whilst fostering a collaborative and innovative culture across their team, focused on operational excellence.

What you'll be doing

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Contributes to the development and executes strategic plans and operational objectives for data center construction that aligns with the organization's business strategy and goals.
  2. Leads capacity planning efforts and establishes technology roadmaps to meet future infrastructure demands and identifies opportunities for facility optimization, energy efficiency, and cost savings.
  3. Oversees a portfolio of data center construction projects, including new builds, expansions, and renovations and ensures that all projects adhere to defined scope, budget, and timelines.
  4. Ensures the implementation of project management best practices and methodologies.
  5. Allocates and manages resources, including budgets, people, contractors, and equipment, to support data center construction projects and optimizes resource allocation for maximum efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  6. Provides technical oversight and guidance on data center facility designs, ensuring they meet operational, security, scalability, and sustainability requirements.
  7. Identifies cost-saving opportunities and optimizes project spending.
  8. Identifies potential risks associated with data center construction projects and develops comprehensive risk mitigation strategies.
  9. Establishes and enforces rigorous quality control measures to ensure that construction work adheres to design specifications, industry standards, and best practices, and conducts regular inspections and audits.
  10. Selects, negotiates with, and manages external vendors, suppliers, and construction contractors to ensure compliance with project requirements and timelines.
  11. Provides regular updates on project status and milestones.
  12. Promotes and enforces safety protocols, environmental responsibility, and sustainability practices in data center construction projects and ensures compliance with safety regulations and standards.

Knowledge and Attributes:

  • Ability to provide leadership and direction to teams, driving operational excellence and results.
  • In-depth knowledge of data center facilities, infrastructure, best practices, and industry standards.
  • Strong technical understanding of electrical systems, HVAC, cooling technologies, networking, and security systems relevant to data center construction.
  • Significant leadership and team management skills, including managing cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration, stakeholder management, and reporting.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities to address complex challenges.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with industry trends and best practices.
  • Strong financial acumen, budgeting skills, and experience managing large construction project budgets.

Academic Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Advanced business degree such as an MBA is advantageous.
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is preferred.

Required Experience:

  • Significant experience gained in a similar role within a global IT services organization.
  • Significant experience in project management methodologies, tools, and practices.
  • Significant experience managing data center construction projects.
  • Significant experience managing and leading data construction project resources.
