We are seeking an inspirational, highly-motivated and experienced Design Technology Teacher to be a member of the Art and Design & Technology Department through the next stage in its development. The successful candidate will be required to have the ability to teach Art to at least IGCSE level with the possibility of teaching A-Level.

Key Duties

Teaching and Learning

1. To plan and prepare lessons;
2. To teach, according to their educational need, assigned students, setting high expectations for all;
3. To set and mark students’ work, including examinations;
4. To assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of students;
5. To give feedback to students which will help them to make good progress;
6. To adapt lesson planning to feedback received from students and their work;

Reporting and Assessing

1. To provide regular reports and grades for students in line with the School’s cycle;
2. To identify and raise students of concern;
3. To attend parent-teacher meetings and provide oral reports to parents;
4. To provide references for students, as requested;
5. To assess and report on prospective students, as requested;
6. To prepare examinations and tests for students, including common examinations and tests;

Other Duties

1. To take register as required in a timely fashion, and to alert a senior member of staff when concerned about the whereabouts of a student;
2. To ensure the classroom is presented as a vibrant and positive space for learning;
3. To promote the wellbeing of individual students and all assigned classes;
4. To act upon any concerns about students’ wellbeing, alerting the safeguarding team where necessary, and to ensure appropriate records are kept;
5. To communicate and consult with the parents of students;
6. To accompany students on school visits and trips;
7. To supervise students and student activities, as required;
8. To lead two extra-curricular activities weekly;
9. To play a role in marketing the School to prospective students and parents;
10. To cover lessons for absent teachers as required;

Primary School

1. To take primary responsibility for a class of students and work in close partnership with the year group team;
2. To work closely with the class learning assistant;
3. To attend and contribute to weekly staff meetings and attend whole school and other meetings as required;
4. To take the role of a subject coordinator and to contribute to school development plans and schemes of work as required;

Secondary School

1. To attend and contribute to department meetings and other staff meetings, as required;
2. To contribute to department development plans and schemes of work, and to undertake tasks as delegated by the Head of Department;
3. To act as a mentor or Sixth Form Tutor for a group of students, providing guidance and advice on education, careers and social matters and leading PSHE lessons;

Professional Development

1. To continue to develop professional skills, through CPD, further reading, etc.;
2. To participate in the School’s focused development programme and performance management annually;
3. To take part in CPD initiatives run by the School, e.g. observation fortnight.

Expatriate staff who apply should have a basic degree, PGCE/PGDE qualifications and at least two years’ teaching experience. In the absence of a PGCE/PGDE qualification, the candidate should provide a letter from their current/former employer certifying ten years of teaching experience.
